Permission was given to the Lexington Gas Company to extend their main in Curve Street a distance of 120 feet. In accord- ance with the Engineer's suggestion they were also notified not to take for granted that they were given permission to make house connections when given a main location. They must specifically apply for a service location and if they find that it will require a different location than that diagramed* they must then present another diagram. Renewal of compensation insurance on Office Employees, employees of the school department, i'ovm Engineer and Assistants, Drivers, Chauffeurs and helpers, office and park employees expiring Apri125th, was ordered renewed. The application of John Leary of 23 Waltham St. for a public carriage on Maes. Ave. in front of the restaurant, was refused by the Board, an this would congest traffic at that point. In regard to decorating the Town Hall, the Board voted not to expend any money for that purpose this year. A letter of thanks was received from the American Legion for the courtesy of allowing the men dismissed from their respective departments to attend the funeral of Charles G. Hoge The Board also, in accordance with the recommendations of the former Board of Assessors, appointed Mr. Frederick J. Spencer and Norman Skidmore as Assistant Assessors. Edward C. Stone was unanimously appointed as Tovm Counsel. No compensation was fixed, as that matter is to come before the Town at a., later date. The Board authorized Mr. Blake to secure bids on a temporery loan of $175,000, the same to come due Nov. 15th. Mr, Jay 0. Richards came before the Board in reference to the Board of Survey lay out of a street running parallel with the 1 0 1 M Lexington Centre Garage from Mae®..avenue to Vine Brook Road and also the lay out of the road from dinthrop Road to 'Waltham Street. The lay out of the first mentioned road was made in 1918 and the ' latter in 1916. Mr, Richards desired to know if the town was to retain that land for a street, and yet make the owner pay taxes on the same. The Board thought the only way to clear up the matter was to insert an article in the warrant for the town meeting and have a vote of the town as to what they desired to do. No action was taken on the settlement of the Breck-Robinson Nursery claim. Chief Edward Leavitt, came before .the Board and explained that it was costing the police department $80 pr, month for auto hire to go to Court, and that he believed that if the town pur- chased a ford Touring car, it would be less expensive in the end, and the amount now being paid out each month could. be used toward. the purchase of same. The Board informed him that they believed that he could hire a car from Calvin W, Childs for possibly $50 pr. month. They also informed him that they would not consider the purdhase of a car until after the appropriation had been acted upon. He was also instructed to get the motor cycle repaired for use in the department. fur. Leavitt informed the Board that he was not satisfied with some of the members of the Police Department, that they were not efficient, could not even answer a telephone properly. It was ' suggested to him that he endeavor to arrange the work so that the men -not capable of office work be sent on the street. The Board signed the approval of the Board of Health regu-. lations, the Plumbing Regulations, and the Building Law, with amendmsnte, and turned the same over to the Town Clerk for his signature. This paper was signed for the benefit of Judge Keyes of the Concord Court who requested that this be done. i The Board also signed a commitment of sewer frontage tax of $7.50 of F. B. hunneman of Parker Street, the same to be turned over to the Tax Collector. This action was taken under Section 8 of Chapter 359 of the acts of the year 1906. The Supt. of Public 6orks explained to the Board that he had made a reduction of pay to uharles Faugno, employee of the Yater & Seger Department for a number of years, and that it maybe possible that Mr. Faugno will come before the Board to protest against the same. Meeting, 8 P. M. Messrs. Hutchinson and Burnham Present. ' Joseph Waters came before the Board in reference to his appli- cation for a gasoline filling; station. He represented a sketch drawn approximately to a scale of 1" - 15 feet. He explained that he intended to erect a store and wanted to sell gasoline in con- nection therewith. The lot on the corner of Bow Street and Mace. Ave. has a frontage of 120 feet, and 112 feet on the side. 32 110) The petitioner presented a paper signed by persona in the "s7 Immediate vicinity stating that they had no objections to a filling station at that point. He also stated that he had communicated with' a salesman of the J.9V. '`ilbur Co. ,nd he stated they would be glad to have a filling station there. He interviewed Mr. Michael Curran, who resides opposite and Mr. William G. Murphy of 25 Mass. Ave., and they had no objection to the proposed pumps being installed.
