Eliot Hadley, Editor of the Lexington Times, came before - the Board to find out 'Trh'v the Lexington By -Laws -i,,-re not printed in his paper as he believed his to be the only ^arer that they could legally be printed in, instead of in the Lexington :;inute-man. The matter was diecdeeed by the Board and it was decided to ask the town counsel's opinion as to whether or not the action of the committee in printing the By -Laws in the Minute -man was legal. A letter was therefor written to the Town'Couneel asking his opinion at a very early date so that the printing could be done legally. Letter was mailed on the 30th instant and copy given to Yr. Hatch member of the By -Law Committee. The Board appointed the following as the April 19th Celebration Co=ittee: Alfred Pierce - (Requested to call meeting) Prank E . Fayne s Charles L. Letter was received from.the Supt of Public +orko in which he reco.nmended the appointment of Albert Ross of Lexington as _acting Superintendent of 3treete, .rater and Sewer. The Board believing that he was the most efficient of the candidates for the position., voted to appoint him as Acting Supt, at a eal�:ry at the rate of $,1900 pr. ,year. If hiE- services proved eati^factory his appointment might be made permanent. Letter wa-s re.cei­,red from Albert F. '++elsh, 'Town Counsel of 1powich, in which he congratulated the Board upon its appointment of Edward Leavitt, former chief of Police of Ipswich. theletter war acknowledged. Lew 75.38 12 The Board voted to appoint James J. cullivar. as O'err•eant at a salary at the rate of w1630 pr. year to date from February 1, 10-23, and so notified the Civil service Lept. Letter was received from the Town Jounrel in which•he informed the Board t.at he would continue in office until the new Board of Selectmen took office. 1 Letter war received from the Stanley hill Poet, asking, if they could arrange to park machines in the Depot Lrive on April 19th, also for the use of Buckman Tavern grounds as in the past. and for the use of the land near the 'sown hall.
