Eliot Hadley, Editor of the Lexington Times , came before the Board to find out why the Lexington By-Laws - ere not printed in hie paper ar he believed his to be the only parer that they could legally be printed in, instead of in the Lexington Minute-man. The matter was diecaeeed by the Board and it was decided to ask the town counsel ' s opinion ar to whether or not the action of the committee in printing the 8y-Laws in the Minute-man was legal . A letter way therefor written to the Town Counsel asking his opinion at a very early date so that the printing could be done legally. Letter was mailed on the 30th instant and copy given to Mr . Hatch member of the By-Law Committee . The Board appointed the following as the April 19th Celebration Committee Alfred Pierce - (Requested to call meeting) Frank E. hayne e Charles L. Parker Lester I . Redman john n .w.cEearnev Notification was received from State Forester, A.A L.Bazelev , that the expenditure for gypsy and brown tail moths this year may be $4352 .68 A Bowling .alley License Was granted to Fred B . Bartlett to do business at 466 Mase. Ave . ihie ie a transfer of the License formerl-r granted to Conrad nonzano Common victuallers License was granted to Rufus . Blake to do business at 446 Mass . rvenue . Letter was received from the Supt of Public +corks in which he recommended the appointment of Albert Ross of Lexington as acting Superintendent of Streets , ,nater and Sewer The Board believing that he was the most efficient of the candidates for the position, voted to appoint him as Acting Supt. at a salary at the rate of $1900 pr . year. If hie services proved satisfactory his appointment night be made permanent . Letter was received from Albert F. ++elrh, Town Counsel of Ipswich, in which he congratulated the Board upon its appointment of Edward Leavitt , former chief of Police of Ipswich. Maguire 78 .69 r'alter h . hew 75 .38 12 The Board voted to appoint James J . ..ullivan as oerr-eant 'z] at a salary at the rate of $1630 pr . year to date from February 1 , 1J23 , and co notified the civil Dervice Dept . Letter war received from the Town Counsel in which he informed the Board t.at he would continue in office until the new Board of Selectmen took office . Letter war received from the Stanley hill Port , asking if t..ey could arrange to park machines in the Depot Drive on April 19th, also for the use of Buckman Tavern grounds ar in the past, and for the use of the land near the Town Hall . The Board informed them they had not jurisdiction over the Depot Jriire , but suggested that they get permission from the Railroad Company to park care near the freight house on IN.erriam St. between Leriam and Hancock streets with an entrance on 1'eriam Stleet St. They 7-ere granted permireion for the ure of the Buckman Tavern grounds ar in the part. They were requested to -et in touch with .:.r . .+m. L Burgerr , trustee , to obtain permission to use the vacant lot next to the Town hall . Insurance policy of cemetery department for '1200 compensation war approved, the same being issued through the office of A.A.Marrhall. Class I , Agent' s motor vehicle license war granted to the colonial Garage , 34 Bedford St. common Victuallers License was granted to Rufur 4 . Blake to do business at 446 lass. Ave . Alcohol License war granted to herbert d.. Lawrence . Owing to the fact that i'r.r . Ootton has officially resigned to be effective Jan. 31 , 1923 , the Board unanimously requested i..r. cotton to sit with them at their regular mFetinge until the end of the term. Lr.
