Dr. Edward Bouquillon Superintendent Present Camie Lamica Dir Bus&Ops Present Jim Laverty Asst SI/Principal Present Student Rep Shannon Cain Present CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7 05 p m by Chairperson Ford Spalding The Chair stated that, given a member quorum was not present, votes would not be taken Ford Spalding introduced Jack Weis,the appointed representative from Belmont Guest in attendance. Dr. Bouquillon introduced Ernie Houle, Director of Community Education, Eric Marshall, Minuteman Faculty Association's Treasurer, Bill Blake, Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Lori Crimmins, Minuteman Parent Association, Co-President, DeAnne Dupont, Minuteman Parent Association Co-President; Laura Kelly, Minuteman Parent Association Treasurer, Michelle Roche, Director of Career and Technical Education, and Alan Taupier, Director of Information Technology STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORT Shannon Cain provided a status report of Minuteman athletics She commented that Ed Gerety, a motivational guest speaker, presented to the students in the school gym The students seemed to like his presentation and are still talking about it After the presentation the Student Council was invited to attend lunch with Ed Gerety MINUTEMAN PARENT ASSOCIATION Minuteman Parent Association (MPA) The MPA presented its annual report. Laura Kelly distributed a packet DeAnne Dupont stated that there are 7 board members She also outlined last year's achievements and described this year's goals Dr Bouquillon and the School Committee thanked the MPA for the report and its accomplishments DISTRICT GOALS Ford Spalding asked that the school forward a copy of the district goals to the MPA for distribution Ford Spalding asked the Superintendent and Jim Laverty to outline the strategy to increase enrollment in member towns. Dr. Bouquillon reviewed the"Enrollment Changes Based upon Preliminary October 1 Data"document. He also informed the School Committee that the post-graduate number is in fact much higher than what is reported on the document, as 42 students were not included and are slated to start later in the year. Dr. Bouquillon stated that retention efforts need to be applied to all grades Jim Laverty outlined the 8th grade outreach and that presentations will be handled much like last year's He stated that students are interested and asking many questions at the presentations He also stated that the MPA was a great help in outreach to interested families Kemon Taschioglou asked if the entire 8th grade attends the presentation. Jim Laverty confirmed that they do attend the presentation, but only students who show interest in Minuteman ultimately register to tour the school Ford Spalding asked how the School Committee could help with increasing enrollment. David Bearg stated that he sent a letter describing the status of Minuteman to the editor of the Concord Journal and it was published PRINCIPAL'S REPORT Italy Trip: Connie Maynard presented the request to travel to Italy She reviewed the itinerary and cost Overnight Field Trip: Jim Laverty reviewed both the Environmental Technology and the SkiIIsUSA overnight requests Ford Spalding asked if the group would support this request absent a vote and the members responded in the affirmative I( CAREER&TECHNICAL EDUCATION REPORT Michelle Roche addressed the School Committee She stated that the school produced a View Book Many people worked on the content in the View Book to make it consistent. Michelle Roche reviewed the new DESE program approval process She also reviewed the criteria and steps for the application process She also announced that there is an approved hospitality program at Minuteman The presentation given was submitted for the public record Jeff Stulin stated that when they hired Dr Bouquillon,the School Committee requested that he review the programs offered In addition, Jeff Stulin noted that some programs that benefit Minuteman may not be, nor need be Chapter 74 approved SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT Dr Bouquillon informed the School Committee on the Race To The Top status He noted that Minuteman will receive $44,000 over 4 years Dr Bouquillon will not apply for any of the funds this year Dr. Bouquillon reviewed the Draft agenda for the retreat. He asked the School Committee to review the feedback from the Common Planning days He also requested that the School Committee review the norms that Minuteman uses when holding a meeting Dr Bouquillon stated that there is draft legal language based on the recommendations from the Regional Agreement Task Force The draft will be distributed and a formal report will be submitted to the School Committee during the November meeting Dr. Bouquillon also reviewed the process for voting on the recommendations It was recommended that a member of the task force be requested to make the presentation of the report to the School Committee. SUB-COMMITTEE/TASK FORCE REPORTS Finance Subcommittee Camie Lamica reviewed the FY11 Estimated Revenue plan Jeff Stulin suggested that the school make more conservative estimates He also stated that the administration should limit the use of current-year tuition to pay current-year bills Jeff Stulin stated that the Finance Subcommittee would like to establish oversight procedures on the warrants,the quarterly budget reports,feasibility funds and revolving accounts The subcommittee also discussed how to account for feasibility funds The subcommittee would also like to establish a Finance calendar, which Camie Lamica is drafting Jeff Stulin announced that the Auditors' contract is expiring and suggested that Minuteman retain the same auditors Dr Bouquillon reviewed the"Proposal for a Demographic Analysis and Enrollment Projection Report" from NESDEC and the suggested additions to the Scope of Services to be provided Personnel Subcommittee.
