Application was received from Mrs. Ida H. B. Capper for a
filling station at the northeasterly corner of State Road and
diddle Street.
.The Board replied that inasmuch as repeated hearings have
been held upon applications for filling stations in this vicinity,
and public convenience and necessity do not require the same, they
therefor would not give her a hearing.
Application was received from Eula I. Ellis of 378 Riverway,
Boston, in which she requested permierion to erect a filling
station on the south side of Waltham Street opposite the Jenney
Filling Station. The Board replied to her that public convenience
and necessity do not require a filling station at this point.
A letter was received from the Town Accountant in which he
informed the Board that it would be necessary to borrow $100000;
at once and make it payable.three months from. now. 'rhe Board
therefor instructed the Treasurer to get bide on a temporary loan
of $100,000 and that the -same be payable April 15, 1923.
A letter. was received from ter. George L. Gilmore, fuel
Administrator, in which he stated that anthracite coal price at the
Lexington Coal Company was $16.50 per ton. The Board replied that
they approved this price.
It was voted at a meeting held Dec. 18, 1922 to approve an
order for extra work on Maple Street. To carry culvert eQcavation
at eta. 76 - 21 (Maple :street) to such Nth as Engineer may direct.
Estimated cost of the work will be 4".
The Board authorized the Town Accountant to pay Mr. Christo-
pher Harrison the salary of $350.00 per month to date from Dec. let,
this being the date he finished his i%ork.in Everett.
Yr. Robert L. Ryder, Town Counsel, came before the Board and
reported that he had six or seven names �rnich were suggested by
Mr. Alexander Thornton of the Barton
& y:aine Railroad, who migi;t be
eligible to aprointmen.t as one of the
commiseion on the Maple Street
bridge.
He sugre^ted the following names:
Henry C. Mulligan, James P.
Cole, Henry -Wyman, Arthur N. Tagoose
and George 4;. Bishop.
1dr. Scairman suggested that Mr.
Tyman might be a very good man

to appoint, and it was left with Mr.

rr. Ryder also reported that he
had received bide from
Frank Cogger for $72.00 and Edward C.
Bailey for $80.00 for repairing

The Board agreed with Kr. Ryder that he should endeavor to
secure a release from lure. Wilkinson and leave the necessary
work done by Lr. Cogger.
1r. Cotton called attention to the fact that one man by ,
the name of Thompson who was laid off the Highway 1epartment
was not placed baca on the department like the others were.
Plr. Harrison was requested to place :�r. Thompson back on
the department.
Elmer A. Lord & Co. called the attention of the Board to a
policy of $500.00 on automobile for Fire and Theft on a Ford
car ##5623843 expiring Jan. 11, 1D23. This policy was formerly
carried by Yr. Edwin B. v;orthen, but when he became a member of
the Water and Sewer Commissioners the same was turned over to
Elmer A. Lord & Co. The Board therefor voted to have L.r. `Worthen
renew this insurance.
A duplicate agreement was signed for a lease of land owned
by the Boston & haine Railroad containing an area of 1800 sq. ft.
upon which is kept pipe belonging to the town department. The
terms of the lease are that it shall continue in force until
terminated on any day by thirty days written notice given by
either party to the other of intention to terminate.
A letter was received from Lr. Hill asking us of the restor-
ation of the insurance upon the Locker Building. ',Cr. Blake
requested that Yr.. harrieon reply to :air. Hill'e letter.
A letter was received from Yr. Credle of Grove Street, D'.orth '
Lexington, in whdch he requested that the snow plow go up as far
as his house. 11r. Harrison Was requested to reply to his letter.
It war voted that the Building Inspector make an inspection
of the Town Hall and report as to the advisability of playing
Basket Ball in the Town Hall, and if the hall ib not safe to
notify the Basket Ball teame to that effect.
!Ir. Harrison complained about the one -man -cars of the Middlesex
& Boston Street Railway standing on "se. rvenue near the turnout
where the auto traffic in. thick and the road is narrow.
Lir. Scamman stated that he would be able to arrarpe the matter
and stop the care at Waltham Street ratier than at the turnout.
;.r. Harrison reported that the c:dieon Electric Ill. Company
informed him that the order for the six lights on Wood Street
would have the attention of their department at an early date.
The Supt of Public 6orke also stated that, he 1,.ad received
a letter from the County in which they stated that they would co-
operate witl_Lexington in doing work in 1923.

An application was received from Dorothy Roach of Woburn
Street to have the newer extended to her house.
Lr. Harrison was requested to reply that notriing could be
done at the present time, but that the matter would be taen care
of at a later date.
