Dr. James J . '04ralsh, 'oilliam J. uarshall and Irving B. Pierce
came before the Board in reference to aliens being employed by
194
the to7,n departments when citizens and legion men desire
positions, and a reduction of the force was necessary it this
time,
In looking over the Highway payroll it was found that
A. Quinn, Michael Powers, ivallace deisinger and possible
Timothy Harrington are not citizens.
Lir. Harrison war instructed to ark 111r. Duffy to give
these men a week's notice that they would be through, and when
necessary to be replaced to put on ;citizens in preference and
in accordance with the Mate Law.
Lir. 'Theodore A. Custance came before the Board at the
request of Eugene V. Earle resident of ++ood Street.
He stated that 11r. Earle understood that some work was to
be done on good Street by the Board but that nothing had been
done.
He requested that he be given the ^treet line so that he
could properly grade in connection with the new houses he
intended to build, and also that the low section of the street
be filled so that the water would not stand. Mr. Custance
urged that something be done as the erection of houses -could
bring considerable taxable property to the to -,.;,,n and would more
than warrant the expenditure on the road.
The Board agreed to again revive the request to the
County Commissioners to establish the lines of the street and
to figure on some iork being done there in the spring.
idr. Laxrieon suggested that the portion of road that
needed to be fixed could be done possible under contract.
Lir. Harrison read a letter to the State and also to
the County in which he asked that the State take over Maple
Street from baesachusette avenue to Lowell St., also Lowell
Street from Maple Street to Summer St. Extension,.also that a
portion of Bedford St. be taken over as State Highways; and that
they cooperate by providing funde toward the construction of
'Waltham St. and Concord t+venue.
Mr. harricon reported that he awarded the bid of printing
the schedules of renting the Town Hall to C. z. hadley at the
eum of $13.60. Bid received from the Bart& Fress was $26,
Letter was received from Lr. A. Dean in which he
complkined of the excerrive amount of bill for sidewalk built
along his premises.
lir. harrieon was directed to look into the matter.
The Board's attention was called to the fact that the
haynes drain has not yet been cleaned out.
