I, MI"ETlNG, J-OTY 18, 1922. Messrs. Scamman, Cotton, Burnham and Blake Present. 1dr. Francis J. Toys of Ames Avenue came before the Board to urge that the. Board allow the gas mains to be placed in the water trench in Carville and Butler Avenuep. He asked that this be done owing to the fact that the Gas Co. say that they have not funds enough to put the gas un these streets. As long as the water department is going to put the water pipes in now he requested that the ,gas company be given permission to put their pipes along side of the water pipes. The Board considered that this would not establish a pre- cedent but that in this particular case where so many people would be benefited it would be well to allow this privilege. On motion of Lr. Cotton it was therefor voted that the Gas Co. be given privilege to lay their pipes in the water trench provided t'is meets with lir. lenney's approval. 1vr. C. h. Rollins of Blossom at. came before the Board to see if the Board would put up a street sign at Blossom Street. The Board informed him that they intended to erect iron signs about the tour but this year they did not het any appropriation to purchase the signs. The Board however instructed the Clerk to see if there were any wooden signs that could be painted up so that one could be placed at this point. Joseph Vitale of 116 Rawson Ave. came before the Board to see why his father was not employed on the Water Department. He Stated that 1+1r. Beaudry promised him work but kept putting him off. lir. Cotton stated that he understood. that fir. Vitale was to be put to work on the Carville Ave. job as Poon as that was started. Pole location for one pole on Blossom Street was granted to the I1ew England Telephone & Telegraph Co. No persons appeared to object.. Mr. William H. Burgess and Mr. Jay 0. Richards of the Building 'trust came before the Board relative to their petition for permission to erect a gasoline filling station at the corner of No. Hancock St. and Bedford Streets. Ir. Burgess stated that he intended to build a good look-ing filling station showing an illustration similar to what he intended to have. He offered the land at the corner so that the street ' could be made 'rider at that point. 1:r. Charles 1. Dempsey objected to the erection of a fill - Ing station as it would decrease the valuation of his home and also tend to be a nuisance. Ivir. Ilvedt of Iuo. Hancock St. also objected as he thought it would be dangerous for children going to school. A petition signed by the following remonetrants was pre- cented: Charles r.. Dempsey, Alexander Parke, i4illiam E. Gleason, x_46 L3. L. Gleason, Charles F. nertwell, Stephen. B. Boyd, Alvah F. Ritchie, halph 1. a�lvedt. � Edward W. Taylor also disapproved the granting of a permit very strongly. he stated that it was not a necessity a© there was a pump in front of Davis' on Bedford 3t, and gasoline could be obtained at the coal yard and also at the Colonial garage on ' Bedford St. Mr. Burgess presented a petition signed by the following persons who were in favor of the permit being granted: H. B. Osgood, Chas F. Smith. :+illiam Brackett, :;. F. Teague, silliam L. Burrill. The Board declared the hearing closed and took the matter under consideration. It was decided to ascertain Y�r. Tenney's opinion on the same before taking action. Another petition was received from the residents of Curve St. urging that some thing be done immediately to the drainage system Tn that locality to obtain relief. Ur. cotton stated that he had taken the matter up with Mr.Duffy and Mr. uuffy stated that some relief could be given in an expendi- ture of about $500 although the situation could not be relieved in such a way as it would with an expenditure of $1000. The Board realizing that the conditions warrant relief informed the petitioners that sometiiing would be done as soon as possible. M.-. Cotton also called attention to the fact that on the two corners of Uurve St. the travel way extends over on the land of yr. Baker and �.r. Lew. These two men will deed the land to the town as soon as the drainage matters are looked after, he was informed. Petition for the acceptance of Lake Street was received. The matter was referred to ter. Luffy. Mr. Duffy presented a figure on the building of a gravel sidewalk along the property of Lr. Turner C. Kelley of $215. The Board requested Lr. i)uffy to modify the figures if possible. Mr. Duffy also presented an estimate as to drainage on Lowell St. at land of the Busa Brothers. 11r. Burnham explained that when the catch basin was cleaned out the water flowed on to Buse. Brother's land and ruined his crops, and that something should be done so that the water would run off rather than stand on hie land. 1r. Duffy was therefor requested to put this on schedule #2 of work to be done by the Highway Department. Letter wan received from the Boston � I:aine RR stating that they would not grant any further time on the option of the Railroad property. Copy of the letter was sent to +im. R. Greeley of the committee appointed to secure the subscriptions. Permission was granted to the Lexington Gas Co. to excavate at 168 boas. Ave. for the purpose of giving service. 44r. Hatch reported that he had posted maps in the precincts I as instructed by the Board. In reply to the request of firs. C. F. Nunn that the Episcopal Church be given the use of the Town Hall on Nov. 3rd at reduced rates, the Board notified her that no reduction would be made. The Board signed the contracts in triplicate for the con- etruction of laple and Lowell Streete,. J. W. O'Connell is the ' Contractor. A. n..Larshall was authorized to renew policy #47072 - Maryland Casualty Co. $1000 also ,x-209706 liaryland Casualty - $1000 on tree ^rarden department expiring August 1st. The matter of bids for sidewalk work wae left :pith Mr. Duffy, he to award the work to the favorable bidder. 1 1 It was decided to write Mr. 'Denney a letter asking him to have a consultation with 11r. Saxton, candidate for the position of Supt. of Public uuorks, so that the Board may make progress toward the appointment. It was also decided to meet on Tuesday, July 25 at 5 P. la# to consider the appointment of a Superintendent"land the appoin tment to a temporary town treasurer, if Mr. Tenney would be able to attend the meeting: Bond for public carriage license of John Rose was approved by the Board.
