All Members Present.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved.
Mr. Ribok, ,rho is to build a block on the reserve property,
between the Viano block and the Lexirg ton Trust Co. came before
the Board together with his attorney, Mr. Jacobs, to appeal the
decision of the Building Inspector on the interpretation of the
Building Law.
His claim was that although he was erecting a sec-dnd class
building, he could place the same close to the brick wall of the
Viano block. The Building Inspector informed him that he would
have to place his building 7z feet from the adjoining property.
The building; Inspector also had the opinion of the Town Counsel
to the same effect. l
The Board informed lir. Jacobs that if a let class building
was built he could put the same up close to the line of the
adjoining property but a second class building must be 71 feet
from the line.
Land Court notice relative to land of Roy B. McLean and Lulu B. '
:McLean of Centre and Lee Streets, No. Lexington was turned over
to the Town Engineer.
Kr. Eugene V. Earle and Mr. Hugh J. Maguire came before the
Board and requested that something be dons on Wood Street to put
it in better condition. He was informed that the Board had
requested the County Commissioners to establish the bounds.
Mr. Maguire made the request that the street lights be
extended on Wood Street.
kir. Scamman agreed to go over the ground with yLr. Earle some
time the coming week.
Mr. George H. Gibson.came before the Board and explained that
the drainage system in front of his place at 59 �valtham St, was
not adequate. He talked with kir. 69hite former Supt. of Streets
some time ago and was informed that a catch basin should take care
of the surface water that stands in the section between kir. 11,ull-
iken's driveway and kir. Bellow's driveway,
Mr. Duffy was requested to look the situation over and work out
a satiefactory drainage scheme and report to the Board on same.
In regard to the $3500 insurance formerly on the Stone Crusher,
which has been demolished and exposed of, the Board decided to
place this amount as follows: $2000 on Village Hall, and $1500
on the 01d Adams School.
Insurance policy amounting to $13,000 issued through the office
of Jay 0. Richards was approved.
tir.'dillard C. Hill was authorized to place $1000 insurance
on the contents of Mr. Mara's barn situated on 2JMeriam St. The
' contents of thin barn belong to the town departments and are
stored for,eafe keeping permanently until such time as the town
provides a municipal yard.
Letter was received from Brown, Field & McCarthy of 141 Milk
St, in which it was asserted that Mrs. Isabel Fardy sues the town
for damages to her property by the discharge of water on her
premises.
The claim was referred to Mr. nyder for his attention.
Kr. w'illard C. hill was authorized to renew blanket policy
of $1000 and to consolidate thin policy with one expiring on Oct.
24 for $4350.
Permission was granted to the Lexington Gas Co. to excavate
at 17 Shirley St. for the purpose of installing service.
Letter was received from Sheldon A. Robinson of the Breck-
Robinson Nursery Co. in which they enclosed copy of letter from
James P. 11unroe complaining of the brush as a result of the ice
storm that had been left upon his property.
The Board replied that the brush had already been ordered
removed.
Mrs. Capper's application for a public garage 77ae again con-
sidered, and it was voted -that Lre. Ida H* B. Capper be.given
leave to withdraw her application for a first class garage to
be located on kiddie Street 100 feet from the junction of lWaltham
Street,
Petition for a street light to be located on dole opposite
#15 on Independence Ave. was received from Vernon G. Page, Fred B.
Fletcher and Maurice A. Page.
it was voted to request the Edison Company to place a light
on this pole, and in accordance with the vote passed at the last
meeting to notify the Assessors of same.
Application of Willard P. Reade of 86 Bedford St. for a
license to sell ice cream, confectionery, soda water and fruit
under Chap. 423 of the Acts of 1909, was considered and it was
voted not to grant same.
Letter was written to the State Department of Public raorks
informing them that the town had available $259000 which could
be contributed towards rebuilding; of Maple and Lowell Streets,
The County Commissioners were also notified to that effect,
Letter was received from Mr. George A. hill of the Middle-
sex & Boston St. Rwy Co in which he gave an outline of what the
Company would do to co-operate with the town in rebuilding; that
1 section of Bedford Street from the brook to Elm Avenue, and also
lass. Avenue from r:inthrop Rd to the high School. bar. Tenney
suggested that possibly repairs could be made on Bedford St,
instead of rebuilding same.
Tr. Cotton called attention again to the drainage on
Independence "venue especially to the fact that Mr. Pero,
who is buildin* a new house in that section wants to grade
his lawn, and if any work is to be done he will delay until
such time as the work on the street is finished. Other
residents in that section requested that something be done
on the drainage, and the Board therefor instructed Mr. Beau -
dry and Lr. Duffy to make an estimate of the cost of the -
work and report same to the Board.
Mr. Duffy reported that the work on the Eliot Road
sidewalk about which Mr. Lean wrote should be done. He sugg-
ested if it was agreeable to the Board to have bar. Dailey do
the subgrading. The Board instructed Lr. Duffy to have the
same done in that manner rather than put the Highway men on that
job.
Kr. Duffy informed the Board that he had consulted with
fir. Barrington of Bloomfield Street as the Board requested.
Kr. Barrington desired to have two service drives of tar
concrete. Yr. Duffy's suggestion was that the town par the
gutter portion and he pay the balance. This arrangement seemed
satisfactory to the Board.
It was voted to have the work done on the Rowe sidewalk
on Berwick Road, the same to be paid for from the highway
Account.

Kr. Burnham reported that one of the members of the Po]tice
Department stated that the assistance of the State Constabulary
police would be beneficial in making arrests on persons making
moonshine.
The Clerk was directed to notify ILr. t:aguire to write to
Col. Foote and request assistance of his men.
The Q,uestior. of disposal of rubbish from the Town Buildings
was discussed. 1'r. Duffy stated that owing to the paper boxes,
cartons, etc. the Park Department stopped the Highway Depart.
from dumping the rubbish on the park land.
Mr. Luffy was informed by Lr. Blake that dumping would be
allowed between the red flags provided the papers were not
included.
Mr. Duffy was therefor instructed to write a letter to the
School Lepartment requesting them to burn all papers.
Common Victuallers Licenses were granted to erilliam F. Sim
and Herbert L. KcDonald to do business at 172 Laes. Ave. and
also to the Morse Sisters to do business on fiddle Street cor. '

The petition of the Edison Electric Ill. Co. to attach
its wires to pole 52/057 of the Liddlesex & Boston St. Rwy Co.
on Bedford St. was granted.

Board of Survey.
Petition for the approval of A and B. Streets on plan entitled
Park Heights, Plan 3 by "Warren S. Griswold of 479 Lynn St. Malden.
was received.
It was decided to give a hearing on same on June 13, 1922 at
K.
In regard to the plans of the Lexington Building Trust, it
was decided to request the Trust to finish their plans in accordance
with the Engineers instructions.
It was also decided to write the Planning Board asking them
for their opinion: on there plans.
Parks and Playgrounds.
Fur. Blake reported that he had a request from the American
Legion to have the Ball game on Memorial Day either delayed or
` postponed as a ball game was not in accordance with the intent
of the celebration for that day. He stated that the field had
already been engaged by the K. of C. but he would request them
to delay the game one-hour so that it would not conflict with
the parade to the burial grounds.

The question of laying water Maine in Cedar Street and
Blossom Street was considered.
It was decided to notify the petitioners on Blodsom Street
that the Board did not deem that there was sufficient demand
to lay the water pipes on that street. The petitioners were
notified to that effect.
In regard to the Cedar Street petition the Board decided
to present the same proposition to the residenas heretofore
Presented, namely the 10p guarantee.
Mrs. VanBuskirk, petitioner, was notified to that effect.
Ez . Tenney reported that the work on the Munroe Brook was
at a stand still owing to the fact that the Town of Arlington
requested that no further work be done',; and that detailed plans
of the contemplated work be sent them.
Mr. Beaudry was instructed to extend the present 8 inch
water pipe in Fletcher Avenue and which now extends to Sherman
Street, for a distance of approximately 400 feet.
In connection with the Bond issue for Follen Road Mr. Tenney
informed the Board that Mr. Frank D. Peirce would take the Bonds
at 4%. Pr. Tenney requested Mr. Blake to see if he could
possibly get a better rate.
Mr. Tenney reported that he had received notice to appear
in Superior Court at 2 P. k. +rednesday, May w4.
The 'Water Department men went in to clean out the McOaffrey

brook on Tuesday and were ordered to atop by I+IcCaffrey. Lo Caffrey
wanted a drain pipe placed in the brook but::r. Tenney informed �G
him that it would not be done. liter. i_cCaffrey therefor secured
Daniel j. O'Connell ae Counsel, hence the notice to appear in
C ourt . '
In this connection the -Board voted to employ Nathan B. Bid-
well as Counsel to defend the-town in place of Kr. Ryder who is
absent from town,
