Hill came before the Board relative to In- surance matters. He informed them that the new rate on insurance as revised would be 1.36 on a thousand for five years. He also gave figures showing the rates in other towns surrounding, and the comparison showed that Lexington's rate was low. He called attention to the fact that as long as the Stone Crusher was removed that the blanket total could be reduced that amount namely $3500, and that credits could be received from the different agents or the amount could be placed upon some other building, The Board took no action on the matter. Mr. Blake called attention to a valuable picture by William Hart that hung in the Hancock School and questioned whether we should have additional insurance on that. Mr. Hill informed the Board that insurance on the pictures could be recovered in case of damage, but suggested that a list of the valuable pictures in buildings could be filed so that adjustment matters would be eaeier. Permission was granted to the Edison Electric Illuminating Company to attach wires and fixtures to existing pole of the New Eng. Tel & Tel. Co. on Lowell St. - second pole from East 1 Street, towards Woburn St. one pole. Letter was received from the Town Zngineer enclosing plan giving other location than those proposed by the Lexington Gas Co. on Charles St. Cary St, Taft Avenue, Chase Avenue, Butler Avenue, Tucker Ave. and Oak Street. A hearing was declared open upon the petition of Mrs. Ida H. B. Capper for a license to maintain a public garage on Middle Street about 100 feet from the junction of Waltham Street and Middle Street. There were present Mrs. Ida H. B. Capper, Mr. Capper and Miss Hannaford for the petition, and Mr. Robert E. Burnett and Mr. Neil McIntosh de remonstrants. A petition signed by Robert E. Burnett, J. C. E. Grametorff, Art1mr E. Nunan, James E. Foster, George H. Lowe, George E. Briggs, W. B. Latus, Geo. H. Pierce, Gerald S. Howland and Fred L. lord was presented to the Board. The signers of this petition were opposed to the erection of a garage. Mrs. Capper gave her reason for requesting a garage in this section which was mainly that she wished to utilize the five acres of land in some way so that she could obtain some revenue. ' The Board declared the hearing closed at 8:40 P. M. and considered the matter. Action on the petition was postponed for one week. Mr. Willard C. Application was received from Willard P. Reade, 86 Bedford ' Street, for a license to sell ice cream, confectionery, soda water and fruit under Chap. 423 of the Acts of 1909. No action was taken on the application. Application 'for a gasoline tank capacity of 1500 gallons was received from Frederick Lunder-gan of 9 Sylvia St: The Board, deeming that public necessity and convenience do not require a tank at the proposed location, voted not to hold a hearing on same. Application for five galldne a month for the use of the Milk and Plumbing Inspection Departments was received from Andrew Bain. He maintains his own automobile and uses the same on town work. There being no funds in either departments for incidentals and all gasoline used by other departments is to be charged to their account, it was decided not to establish a precedent by allowing free use of the gasoline from the town tank. Letter was received from the School Committee asking that a bill df $50 for legal eervicee rendered by the Town Counsel be charged to the "Law Account." The Board voted to approve the bill. The bid for the painting of Village Hall was awarded to ' Mr. Frank Cogger of Oak Street, at his bid of $360 in accordance with the specifications. Mr. Cogger was requested to paint the building "warm slate". The question of assessment of property was discussed and in this connection it was voted that in all cases where public improvements of a permanent nature, such as water pipes, sewers & lights are placed, that the Assessors be notified of ouch. Mr. Duffy conferred with the Board relative to the con- struction of Bedford Street, from the brook to Elm Avenue. He stated that arrangements -should be made for a conference with the Middlesex & Boston St. Rwy Co. to see how much they are willing to cortribute toward construction. It wan left with Mr. Scamman to arrange the conference for Friday afternoon at 2:30 P. M. It was voted to pay for the entire amount of gasoline bought for the town gasoline tank out of the highway department and to charge amount used by other departments to them, crediting the highway department. This arrangement was satisfactory to the Town Accountant. Mr. turnham reported that nothing definite had been done ' about the Hancock Street regulations. It was decided -to notify the bus companies to "discharge and load their passengers from eight seeing autoe at the Hancock Clarke House on the same side of Hancock Street upon which the Hancock Clarke House stands, and that parkinge were to be allowed on that aide of the street only. ' Mr. Burnham was also to see that the Police Department place up "no parking" eigns on the left side of Hancock Street going up. Mr. Tenney reported that he visited the section including Albemarle, &rcadia, Rindge and Rawson Avenues, and considered that thepeople in this section were entitled to street lights. He stated that one light could be placed on the pole at the end of Webb St, Off Wbburn St. Water & Sewer Lept. Mr. Beaudry reported that Mr. Swan and Mr. Russell were not satisfied with the proposition presented to them relative to sewer connection. Mr. Beaudry explained that Mr. Swan claimed that when the construction work was being done on Bedford St. the sewer should have been extended to take in these houses, and now that this lateral connection has to be made they should not be charged so much for entering the sewer. The charge for entering would ordinarily be $58 for Mr. Swan's connection and $58 for Mr. Russell's. The assessment slong that- ride of the street would be one half of 118 or $59. ir. Tenney suggested that Mr. Swan pay $59 and Mr. Russell Pay $59 and pay $59 for the frontage asseesment on the other side of the street which would make $236 as against the present coat of $390. }stir. Beaudry was instructed to again communicate with Mr. Swan. Board of Survey. Mr. i1m. H. Burgess and Jay 0. Richards of the Lexington Building Trust together with Herbert J. Kellaway, Engineer for the Building Trust came before the Board and presented plane of proposed street on the Kendall property, Bedford St. The Chairman opened the hearing which was adjourned from last week. Matters relating to assessment of land in "that section were discussed. The plan showed a street parallel with Bedford St. with a grade of 1%p" and 11% in some places. The plan was left with the Board so that the Town Engineer could look over the same to see if it complied with the requirements and also so that the Planning Board could take up the general plan.
