Eva Lassof 27 Sylvia St. Mr. Arthur Rollins 1 Blossom St. Auctioneer's William G. Murphy 25 Mass. Ave. The Board voted to have the flags on the Town Hall and on the Common at half mast for Mr. Henry H. Tyler, Grand Army Veteran deceased on May 10th. A letter was received from Mr. F. i. Dean of Eliot Road in which he complained that the sidewalk on Eliot Road had not been completed, also to the condition of Eliot Road street sign and Pelham Road street sign. The letter was turned over to Mr. Duffy for him to call personally on Mr. Dean and take these matters up with him. Mr. Cotton reported that owing to the fact that Mrs. Webb of Grove Street was under arrest for assault on her husband. Mr. Webb is in a hbspital and the children were distributed among friends, one child was sent to the Almehouse to remain there until Mr. Cotton consulted the father. Mr. A. Caruso of 200 Salem Street, Boston requested a chance to bid on that section of Bedford Street that is to be rebuilt. The letter was acknowledged and placed on file. The bond of Mr. James J. Sullivan as Constable was approved by the Board. The Warrant for the Town Meeting to be held on May 22nd was signed. Legal Opinion was received from Town Counsel Ryder in which he informed the Board that in his opinion the holder of a Common Victualler's License can sell tobacco on Sunday, and called attention to Chapter 1360 Section 6 of the General Laws which relates thereto. A bid was received from Mr. Edward H. Mara for the painting of Village Hall, same being for $420.00 Notification was received from the Town Accountant that the Town can vote a bond issue for $45,000 this year. 1 1 1 Mr. Ryder gave a legal opinion that he did not find any requirements in the statutes for a permit to hold a clam bake. ' It was therefor decided to notify Mr. '1. T. Leonard of 82 Cushing Avenue, Belmont, who applied for a permit to have Clam Bakes at the Lexington Park property, that he would have to have no permit unless he intended to charge direct admission. It was decided to request the Chairman of the Board of Assessors and the Finance Committee to be present at a meeting of the Board of Selectmen on May 12th. Mr. Tenney called attention to the condition of Hancock Street and Bedford Street beyond the railroad track. In this connection Mr. Tenney suggested that Mr. Duffy give the Board a report of the work he has done in this section such as patching, oiling,etc. Permission was granted to the Lexington Gas Company to excavate at 173 Mass, Ave. to supply service. Water and Sewer Department. Mr. Robert L. Ryder came before the Board to discuss the Munroe Brook matter. Ir. Beaudry stated that Mr. Duffy and he had carefully gone over the matter and found that it would cost in the vicinity of $2300 to do the work as it should properly be ' done. It was decided to ask the Finance Committee for $2500 to clean out the bbstructione on the Ryder property and deepen and widen the Munroe Brook and culvert. In this connection a letter was received from the Town Counsel of Arlington in which he informed this Board that he did not consider that he should put their town to any expense at the present time for the further benefit of this land. This action is to be taken under Art. 33 of the Warrant under the meeting of March 6th, as this article is still open. In connection with the proposed water main extensions Mr. Tenney reported that he had taken the matter up with the Town Counsel and would revise them as they were not in accord- ance with the law. It was decided to request Mr. Ryder to draw up an article for the Warrant asking for a bond issue for sewer connections. In this connection the Board was to decide at a later date the term of years to allow sewer connections to be made. In connection with the Audubon Road drainage system a letter was received from Mr. Weston giving full details relative to the Patterson cesspool. The Board decided to send Mr. Patterson a copy of Mr. Weston's letter and to state that the vote of the Board passed at,a previous meeting still holds, and he is requested to make the changes in his sewer disposal system so that the Board can clean up the entire matter for the benefit of all the residents in that vicinity. The openings to be left open for the inspection of the Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Department. 112 Mr. Cotton stated that Mr. Marshall of Independence Ave. Called attention to the drainage situation near his place on that street. Mr. Beaudry was requested to investigate the ' situation and report back to the Board at a later date. He was also given the letter of Mr. Elvin E. Baker and others of Curve Street and requested to make an investigation and report. Mr. Tenney reported that he was endeavoring to get a second water supply from the Metropolitan System and that the Belmont Spring Country Club would like to take the water on that proposed line. In connection with the Swan- Russell request for sewer connections on Bedford Street this matter was again considered and due to a misunderstanding it was taken up again with the Town Counsel and he informed the Board that it was in their jurisdiction to make the charge as they suggested, thus $325 the estimated cost of construction made up the two items, A. frontage charge; B, entering charge.
