HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-10-12, 10-19-YAC-min.pdf '9>// 50/1 .Minutes from the executive board meeting of October 12, 1.97E The full executive board was present at the meeting Daniel Hoag also attended the meeting At the meeting the executive board discussed the presentation of the 3 major groups which catergorize all work done by the entire commission The board discussed project oriented, responsive oriented, and goal and structure oriented groups We decided that all 3 groups are independant of each other and are all of equal importance The remainder of the meeting was used for planning the agends for the entire Y A C meeting of October19 It Was— decided that we would try brain-storming as a $$)1/ method for defining the commission' s areas of interest We will also identify projects for the commission to work on through this exercise. The executive board also discussed v,hat their role should be. It was tentatively decided that the executive board should synthesise and spearhead the direction of the committee. Minutes from the meeting of October 19 The meeting was called to order by Nancy at 7 45 The following members were present at the meeting Gower, Anderson, Miley,Politi , Cole, Abelmann, Boyle, Spencer Eddison, Shine, Lynah, and Hoag. W Flynn and J Spencer were absent from the meeting. Nancy opened the meeting by explaining the 3 groups that will be organizing all of our work and efforts These groups are project oriented, responsive oriented, and . goal and structure oriented These groups should all work independadntly of each other All of these groups are of equal importance and should remain so Steve Politi reported on the history of Y A C He mentioned past projects consisting of a speakers' bureau , a youth directory, and a youth questionnaire These projects helped to make the Y.A C known through out the town quickly They also started lines of communication. Steve also mentioned a Town Government course that was offered at the high school but was dropped from the ciriculum due to lack of student interest. The Y A C also participated in the Bicentennial celebration. Y A C sponsored a soceer game, a talent show, and an essay contest. These activities were all part of a Town Youth Day. The commission ended up spending more time /$o then they had expected During the first year of the commission' s existance they visited other communities They also met with A. Kenney, selectman. They never recieved a request from the Board of Selectman for any advice Ellen Boyle talked about what happened to the Y A C last year. She said that the commission started out enthuisiastically, but that sometime around Thanksgiving the commission started to lose their enthuisiasm The entire commission became overly concerned with their internal problems and completely dropped all other projects The one yg big project that the commission did accomplish was the presentation of their opinion on the Public Drinking By-law before Town Meeting. Mrs. Cole suggested that a possible reason for the failure of last year's commission was lack of leadership et, 4 and short term goals ySf or projects for the cnt.ire commission The entire commission now brain-stormed on possible projects for the commission. After this was finished a motion was made that the executive board tabulate the /y1 findings of the brain-storming during their next meeting Discussion followed and the motion was passed. Mrs. Cole next motioned to place an item on the agenda of the next meeting to discuss the role of the executive board. That motion was also passed. A quick discussion took place about the report of the Drug Advisory Committee. Mary Fran Anderson motoned that Nancy Abelmann act as a representative of A C. at the Board of Selectmen' s meeting if appropriate That motion was also passed after some discussion Steve mentioned that if Y A.C. wanted to have a report in the Town Report it would have to be submitted by Nov 11 Nancy said that she would try to find out about our budget for the next meeting.
