.
goal and structure oriented These groups should all work
independadntly of each other All of these groups are of equal
importance and should remain so
Steve Politi reported on the history of Y A C He
mentioned past projects consisting of a speakers' bureau ,
a youth directory, and a youth questionnaire These projects
helped to make the Y.A C known through out the town quickly
They also started lines of communication. Steve also
mentioned a Town Government course that was offered at the
high school but was dropped from the ciriculum due to lack
of student interest. The Y A C also participated in the
Bicentennial celebration. Y A C sponsored a soceer game,
a talent show, and an essay contest. These activities were
all part of a Town Youth Day. The commission ended up
spending more time /$o then they had expected During the
first year of the commission' s existance they visited other
communities They also met with A. Kenney, selectman.
They never recieved a request from the Board of Selectman
for any advice
Ellen Boyle talked about what happened to the Y A C
last year. She said that the commission started out
enthuisiastically, but that sometime around Thanksgiving
the commission started to lose their enthuisiasm The entire
commission became overly concerned with their internal
problems and completely dropped all other projects The
one yg big project that the commission did accomplish was
the presentation of their opinion on the Public Drinking
By-law before Town Meeting.
Mrs. Cole suggested that a possible reason for the
failure of last year's commission was lack of leadership
et,
4 and short term goals ySf or projects for the cnt.ire commission
The entire commission now brain-stormed on possible
projects for the commission. After this was finished a
motion was made that the executive board tabulate the
/y1 findings of the brain-storming during their next meeting
Discussion followed and the motion was passed.
Mrs. Cole next motioned to place an item on the agenda
of the next meeting to discuss the role of the executive
board. That motion was also passed.
A quick discussion took place about the report of the
Drug Advisory Committee. Mary Fran Anderson motoned that
Nancy Abelmann act as a representative of A C. at the
Board of Selectmen' s meeting if appropriate That motion
