Mr. Anselm C. Mullen of 53 Mase. Ave. cams before -the Board at their request and gave his reasons why he desired to have a permit to keep and sell gasoline, After due consideration the Board voted to grant Mr. Mullen a license subject to the approval of the Chief of the Fire Department, Mr. Willard C. Hill of Elmer A. Lord & Co. came before the Board at their request to discuss boiler and compensation insurance. He stated that he would be willing to go over these two items with Mr. Edwin B. Worthen and present a plan which would be a saving to the Town. Mr. Hill was requested to find out how much insurance other towns carried in connection with the above. He was also requested to present figures on the un- insured departments for compensation insurance and for general liability on the Town Hall and Village Hall. It was voted to decorate the Town Hall on April 19th but that the same be done under the direction of the American Legion, and not to exceed $35. It was voted that Mr. Duffy be instructed to buy a Monroe calculator for the Engineering office. It was also suggested that the appropriation for his depart- ment be considered for an increase at the adjourned town meeting. 1 Mr. Cotton called attention to the fact that the town made ho appropriation for lighting the Village Clock at East Lexington as the appropriation made last year was deemed illegal. He explained that the clock was given by'popular subscription mostly and that it was a great benefit to the public. It was suggested that the church charge the Fire Department ' $50 rental per year for the use of the bell for the Fire alarm, which would offset the expense of lighting the clock. Mr. Scamman was requested to see if the Chief of the Fire Department would accede to this proposition. It was voted to send a letter to the Ways and Means Com- mittee informing them that this Board was in favor of some sort of tax on automobile owners to relieve property taxes and that from knowledge the Board prefers a gasoline tax. This is in connection with Bill #152 relative to the recommendations of the department of Public Works. The matter of Assessors was again discussed and report made of the meeting with Mr. Tuttle and Mr. Jackson. It was suggested in preference to the plan presented last week to have three principal assessors and appoint Mr. Tuttle and Mr. Jackson as assistant assessors. Mr. Blake suggested having Mr. F. P. Cutter to be paid by the day to aesiet the remaining assessors in gathering inform- ation. It was finally left with Mr. Tenney to confer with Mr. William W. Reed, Mr. Edwin B. Worthen and Mr. Theodore A. Custance to ascertain whether or not they would serve as Assessors and get their ideas as to the number they would prefer on said Board, and report to the Board on Friday evening. Mr. C. S. Beaudry and J. Henry Duffy were requested to most the Board on Friday evening at 7:00 and 7:30 respectively to 1 talk over matters pertaining to their departments. ' Mr. Tenney stated that his attention was called to the fact that persons continue to use the tennis courts on the play ground when they are in soft condition and it costs consider. able to put them in good condition again. The matter was turned over to Mr. Blake to attend to. Mr. Tenney as an officer of the American gar Co. requested that the Town of Lexington buy no tar from that company. Mr. Blake stated that he had a conference with Mr. Waddell, Director of Aocounts, and found that money could be saved for the town on interest by issuing short notes. Notice was received from the County Commissioners that a meeting would be held on the petition of this Board for the relocation and specific repairs of Maple Street and also on Lowell Street at the County Office on April 25, at 10 A.
