ABSENT Mary Rockwood, Matt Powers, Robert Bayliss, Tracy Dickerman, Paul Ferguson, and Paul Furdon The meeting was called to order by Ellen Boyle (Mary will be absent for the coming few weeks) Cindy announced that their news- letter will be sent out to organizations soon after the meeting With the Minuteman. Ellen and Sue reported on the Executive board meetin4g of Jan. 8. We are starting an alternate system, so that members who are not able to attend a meeting can send a representative in their place. If yo4 were not at the last meeting, a form is enclosed for information on your alternate. This should be someone closely associated with you, who is also interested in the Y.0 The info on these forms will also be used for an updated list of names, addresses and tel #'s of the YC members. At the Executive board meeting, Mrs. Gallant, a rep from the League of women voters, reported on the YC in Needham. She had many interesting facts, and the YC decided to invite her to a meeting in the near future. The Jan. 14 mee ing then turned towards the question of Drink- ing on public property Mr. Busa explained the present law (no drinking on publically owned property-parks, recreation areas, schools, and conservation lands) , and the proposed law(no drinking in entire town-roads too) . Several ideas were raised for a way of controlling the violaters without depriving others of the right to drink. Ellen read Captain Furdon`s letter in support of the proposed law Alan brought up the point that most of the violaters are drink- iing illegally anyway (under age) , and Nancy agreed that laws exist already to exist to prevent disorderly behavior and that if they were enforced, another law would not be heeded Some ideas-sort of compromises-were suggested, such as; permits for drinking on public land, police decision if a certain instance is harmless or not-and intervention if it is, and a law that forbids mote than a certain number of people from 6ongregating with an alcoholic beverage present. In any case, the Commission felt that since no one was informed as to the issue, and that since no authorities from the CRC were present, we could not come to a conclusion on the matter. Nancy, Joe, Jeanne, and Paul have started MN to get pledges from businesses to help offset the cost of the Directory, and the project is proceeding smathly.
