M-SJ-Ce TOWN CLLEBRATJONS COMMITTEE June10, 1976 The TCC met informally on the lawn of the Visitor 's Center for a period; when it became appartnt that a quorum would not be present, there was a. short discussion of the status of plans for July 4, however, no actions were taken June 17, 1976 PRESENT Vice—chmn Gaughan(presiding) , Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Mitchell , Mr Brenchick, Mr Flynn MINUTES of the preceeding meeting were approved CORRESPONDENCE A letter from Fire Chief Joseph expressing no objection to the use of the Hayden property for purposes of a July 4 bonfire (to be lighted only with his express permission as agreed upon previously) was read According to Rev Handley, Hayden has granted permission to use the area A call from Chief Marshal Rooney reporting that he had never re— ceived April 19 bills from either the Stewart Highlanders or the Gloucester ROTC Old Business There was a discussion of the Memorial Day parade At the conclusion of this discussion, it was voted that Mrs Litchfield should send a letter of thanks to the National Guard, however, there will be no honorarium included July 4, 1976 The TCC reviewed plans for the day It was felt that , as on Patriot ' s Day, there was no real need for the TCC to plan events which would hold the attention of the same spectators for the entire time—span from 2 pin to dusk It was agreed that scheduling formal ceremonies in the afternoon; a family picnic with band presentation in the late afternoon; and the bonfire at dusk would, in conjunction with the usual Lions Club carnival, provide a suitable observance of this special holiday It is unlikely that individuals will wish to be present for the entire time; however, should they wish to do so, there is ample opportunity. It was agreed that Mr Fitzgerald and Mr Flynn should express to the Lions our wish to cooperate with them in every way, since this group has carried the burden of July 4 celebrations for many, many years and uses carnival proceeds for many worthwhile community purposes However, the TCC will request that, for the period in which the band will be performing nearby, the Club arrange with its concessionaire that there be no music accompanying the carnival rides Respectfully submitted, Ruth Mitchell , Recording Sec 'y 4Q ©G
