HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-09-09-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE September 9, 1976 PRESENT Chmn Barnes, Mr Gaughan, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Hazel, Mr Fitzgerald Paul Jenkins Old Business Chmn Barnes opened the meeting by welcoming Mrs Hazel to the TCC and leading a review of official TCC responsibilities under the By—Laws of the Town Past practices were mentioned, as was the budget voted by Town Meeting for the present fiscal year -- a sum of $5500 00 Accounts for the past year were also reviewed It was noted that, in— sofar as- any member present knew, there were no bills outstanding; there was , however, a question regarding the status of the present yearffs funds Chmn Barnes will review this matter with both the Town Manager 's office and the Town Accountant, since , by agreements reached with the Selectmen in two separate meetings, there were monies from the Bicentennial Warrant Article available to the TCC for ( 1) Patriot ' s Day parade marching units and (2) the 1976 Bicentennial celebration of July 4 No bills have been incurred which should have been charged to the 1976-1977 fiscal year appropriation account under Article 4 of the 1976 Town Warrant Correspondence 1 A letter from the Lexington Minute Men with a roster of officers for the upcoming year 2 A letter from 'the Concord Band regarding availability for the season 3 A copy of a letter with a covering letter from the Board of Select— men, in which comments regarding the possibility of Lexington (and, most likely, the Lions Club) undertaking the sponsorship of fire— works as a feature of July 4 celebrations Discussion followed reading of these letters and it was decided that Mrs Litchfield should ask the Town Manager, representatives of the Fire, Police, DPW, and the Lions Club to join the TCC on September 23 for a full discussion of the issue before the TCC responds wither to the selectmen or to the original letter 4 A copy of a letter send by Town Manager O'Connell to the Select— men regarding additional funding for the Lexington Minute Men Chmn Barnes will confirm with all interested parties the firm state— ment made in early 1976 that TCC funds for the Minutemen's April 19 participation were limited to the sum of $450 00 ; also, that the $5500 budget voted for 1976-1977 would allow no raise in our usual $450 contribution However, it was noted that, in recognition of the major contribution made by the group on July 4, 1976, the TCC had voted on June 24 to make a contribution towards their July 4 expenses This money was voted from Bicentennial Funds allotted for July 4 expense A letter of response will be sent to the ��� Selectmen Veteran' s Day November 11 , 1976 QC\ Initial plans for the occasion were made The format of parade and ceremonies will follow the traditional pattern contacts with groups and individuals will be made to note the November 11 date Respectfully submitted, Ruth Mitchell, Recording Secretary
