The records of the last meeting were read and approved.
Hearing was declared open upon application of firs. Ida H.B.
Capper to erect a gasoline filling statd on at the southwesterly
corner of uialtham St. and the State Road with underground tanks
with a cqcpacity of 3000 gallons, 2500 to be gasoline and 500
cylinder oils.
Ire. Capper made personal request that she be granted per-
mission to erect this filling station.
Ldr. Lyon Carter came before the Hoard stating that he came
as an outsider with no particular interest in the matter.
Mr. Carter, however, spoke in favor of the petition saying that
a Lexington tax payer should be allowed the privilege of using
her own land for a leIgate business, and that he saw no parti-
cular reason why an atdactive filling station would not be a
behefit rather than a detriment to the location.
Mr. Robert E. Burnett presented a written protest signed
by several of the residents in the vicinity. Muir. Burnett 10bjdeted
to applications for a filling station at this corner. previously.
Mr. McIntosh inquired whetter or not Mrs. Capper would set
the station back far enough from the corner with outlets on both
the State Rd. and Waltham St.
Mrs. Capper agreed to set the station back somewhere in the
vicinity of 150 feet.
No other persons appeared to object or to be in favor of
same: A letter of protest was received from Pyr. F. L. Emery.
The hearing was declared closed and the matter taken under
consideration.
Resignations were received from Yrs. A. C. 'iVhitney and
Mrs. William 7+. Reed as Trustees of the Gammell Legacy income
acting with the Overseers of the Poor.
In this connection it was voted to get the opinion of the
Town Counsel as to whether or not the acceptance of Chap. 107
of the Acts of 1910 eliminated the appointment of two ladies to
expend the income of the Gamnmell Legacy.
The Town Counsel was requested to have his opinion on hand
by next Tuesday evening. No action was taken on the resignations.
Approval of the appointment of 0. J. Gorman as ;,doth Superin-
tendent and as Forest Warden was received from the State Forester.
' kr. Gorman was notified to that effect.
Application for the position of Building Inspector was
received from John McKay of 12 Fletcher Ave. No action was taken
on the matter.

Report was received from John C. Russell, Police Officer,
sent to investigate conditions at the Adams School. His report
showed that the children were not acting disorderly.
It having been found that hr. James'+'�. 'hebeter has not as
yet paid his December rent, he was given until Monday, Jan. 16
at 5 o'clock P. Id. to pay same.
It having been found that the public carriage regulations
called for a bond whether or not the licensee had $10,000
liability insurance or nut, Mr. nalph H. Larshall and Carol B.
;vetherbee also Arthur A. arshall and Son were notified to file
bonds of $1000 covering each public carriage.
Ur. James A. Bean was also notified to the same effect.
The Board visited the Almshouse on Sunday, Jan. 8th and
took inventory of the Almshouse property at which time a tentative
oral agreement was, made to date from Jan. 1. 1922 relative to
renting the Town !arm to William E. Eaton and wife, the same tabs
presented to the 'Town Counsel to dray up legal agreement. In this
connection a complete inventory of the highway department will be
made as of Jan. 15th. .
It was voted to suspend Soldier's Relief to 1 -re. Albert S.
IuicDonald of Kase. Ave. she having received her pension.
