Treasurer's Report The treasurer’s report was accepted. There is a balance of $10,058.74. Grant Business: ??Betty Ray sent her request for reimbursement by mail and town hall sent it back to her. This is not an unusual incident that our mail gets redirected back to the sender because there are several different departments that sort the mail and not everyone is familiar with LCA. Barbara will check with George Burnell to see if he can straighten this situation out. · Cary Library will soon be asking for the $5000 in funds that we are granting to them for their front entranceway “donor wall” display. New Business: ??Concern has arisen that the Lexington Council for the Art’s link on the town website is very hard to find. Zoe, Jan and Bill are on our website subcommittee and will prepare some suggestions to submit to Candy McLaughlin that will hopefully allow us to be more visible on the town’s site. ??Jan presented the LCA’s new mission statement and guidelines for those who submit grants to us. We will put them on our MCC page and also the town page eventually. ??We are planning to have a table again at the non-profit tent on Discovery Day, which is Saturday rd May 23 of Memorial Day weekend. Business for Next Meeting Website discussion ?? Discovery Day plans ?? Approval of our mission statement and guidelines ?? Review membership status ?? Update on mailroom situation ?? Space reservation for meetings beyond June ?? Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM. The next meeting will be May 11, 2009 at 7:00 PM in Cary memorial Library in the Learning Center. Welcome to the May issue of the LCC News and To-Do's. The nice weather is here, and what better time for a little spring cleaning! Take this opportunity to update your council's public information and membership list in the online office, and collect community input if your council is due. This month we highlight a few great resources that are available to councils. The first is offered through ArtsBoston and is our feature article. The second is the updates we've made to your council's public web pages, and the third offers councils a new way to recruit volunteers. The new artsboston.org features upcoming concerts, exhibits, performances, and screenings in the Greater Boston area. Its goal is to gather all of Greater Boston's cultural and entertainment events in one central space that is accurate and easy for the public to use. There is also space to read reviews from the media and individuals, as well as watch video and hear audio for an interactive and informed buying decision. You can submit your organization's information free of charge at www.artsboston.org/submit/org, and information about your upcoming events at http://www.artsboston.org/submit/event. This is a perfect opportunity for local arts organizations to list themselves on this new site and gain exposure. Be sure to tell your grantees and your community about this new resource! LCC News New LCC Public Web Pages As you know, each council has its own public web page available through the Online Office. Councils can see their public page at any time by going to https://www.mass- culture.org/lcc_public.asp and selecting your city/town's name from the list on the left. We've recently launched some important improvements to this feature and wanted to share them with you. In addition to what was possible before, you can: Post local guidelines and priorities ?? Link to LCC/PASS application forms ?? Provide LCC contact info ?? List LCC grants from most recent fiscal year ?? Link to reimbursement forms and MCC credit logos ?? Now LCC Chairs can: Add their LCC's logo ?? Provide an "About Us" for their council ?? Upload up to four images (w/ captions) ?? Post details about council news and events ?? Link to their Council's online calendar (if applicable) ?? Market their public web page with "user-friendly" URLs (For example, Lakeville's new ?? URL is http://www.mass-culture.org/Lakeville.) With this improved public web page, your council can more accurately and more vividly tell the story of everything it does for arts and culture in your community, while continuing to provide Log MCC Communities Department: Pictured: North Adams Open Studios 0960 x285.-232- at 800Kylie Sullivanmail address, please contact -your eTo change toolkit and password: memberin with the username: - story of everything it does for arts and culture in your community, while continuing to provide important information to applicants. Recruit New Volunteers to Your Council To help LCCs reach potential members, we have created an MCC listing on the Massachusetts Service Alliance web site. The MSA helps to connect volunteers with opportunities across the state. Any LCC may log onto the MCC agency profile to add a volunteering opportunity in their specific town. We hope that potential volunteers will be directed to you and that you will increase your membership. You may use this resource whenever you are seeking new members, and can leave your listing up for one year. Learn more about making your own listing under Tips for Recruitment in the online office. The Listening Tour Meeting in Warren on May 7 has been cancelled due to low registration. Come to our other meetings and let us know what you think! We invite all LCC members to participate in the LCC Listening Tour; there are still four meetings remaining in locations across the state. At these meetings you'll get to learn more about the new web site, provide feedback about the LCC program, discuss LCC-generated topics and exchange ideas with other councils. Register for a Listening Tour meeting. Gold Star Award Celebrations Congratulations to the Gold Star recipients and the LCCs that funded these projects! Visit the online office for details about the projects and upcoming local celebrations. LCC To-Do's Continue to check your council mailbox for ?? reimbursement requests. Process these requests as you receive them. Make a plan to gather community input this spring or ?? summer to solicit and collect local public opinion about how to best distribute funds. Attend some of the projects that your LCC has ?? funded. This is a great time of year to visit projects funded by your LCC. Site visits give you an opportunity to gauge the quality and community impact of funded projects firsthand. You will be a more knowledgeable and effective evaluator when it comes time to vote on applications in the fall.
