HomeMy WebLinkAbout1921-12-13-BOS-min 53 MEETING, DEC. 13, 1921 . All Members Present. The records of the last meeting were read and approved. Mr . Scamman reported the fact that he viewed the location of bill board for which application had been received for erection by the Board of Public Works , on the Short property on Waltham St. and outside of the general objection to bill boards he could not see any special objection to this particular sign being erected. The Board of Public Works were therefor notified to that effect. Letter was received from Mr . D B Lewis in regard to the bill for sidewalk work that was rendered to him on Dec . 2 , 1919 . Mr. Lewis stated that he thought the charge was excessive and that if he paid $75 that would be sufficient. The Board also considered the cost of sidewalk excessive and voted to abate $23 .10 making the charge to Mr . Lewis $75 .00. The Clerk was instructed to make an appointment with Mr. Howard, of the Edison Company so that the Board may go over Wilson Avenue and Cliff Avenue in view of placing street lights therein in accordance with the vote of the town passed Dec . 9 , '21 . Letter was sent to John N. Cole, Chairman of the Highway Division, Board of Public Works , giving the proposed program which the Town desires to carry out in the improvement of streets in the next few years , and asking for the co-operation of the State . A copy of said letter was sent to Mr . Alfred L. Cutting, Chairman County Commissioners , asking also for the co-operation of the County in these matters . Copies of both letters were sent to George W. Taylor . Order for $4585.25 was signed by the Chairman for payment of Medford amount to John A. Gaffey of on account of work of constructing Bedford St. this being the final payment for work done . Letter was written to air . Gaffey in connection with the work done on Bedford St. in which his attention was called to some ruts in the road-bed and the tendency of the road to break down where it joins the street railway track. Mr. Gaffey was informed that the Board expected he would sake good as to these matters in the Spring. Letter was written to the County Commissioners enclosing copy of final estimate of the construction of Bedford Street amounting to $20982 .27, and asking that the County contribute its share as soon as possible . L 54 cc Lexington Lumber Co. were informed that the cost of constructing the drive from their premises to the street line on Bedford St. was $246.65 and that they would be expected to pay the same direct to John A. Gaffey, Contractor . Letter was received from Calvin J. C._ilds in which he informed the Board that fro:_. 8 10 A. M. until 9 45 A. K. the Ford ton truck which he was demonstrating took 52 barrels of ashes from the town buildings . L.r . Childs considered this an interesting fact in connection with the purchase of a truck. Copy of Emergency Rent Laws of 1921 were received from the Special Com:ilssion on the Necessaries of Life . Mr . Cotton reported that aid had been extended to George C. Chapin of 333 Mass . Avenue for shoes and rubbers. Aid was also granted to 'Walter E. Burke of 19 Curve St. of $10 $5 being for medicine and $5 towards rent. Fuel was also granted to him.
