MEETING, NOV. 15, 1921,
All Members Present.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved.
A hearing was declared open upon petition of the Edison
Electric 111. Co. for permission to erect two poles on
No. Hancock St. approximately 300 ft. west of Burlington St.
No persons appearing to objedt it was voted to grant the
petition.
A hearing was declared open upon petition of the Edison
Electric 111. Co. for permission to erect one pole on Cedar
St. at the corner of Hamblen St. to supply service to the house
of Mr. Biggham.
Mr. Bingham came befo2e the Board to speak in favor of
the same. Mr. Shaw, Jr. voiced no objection on the part of
his father.
It was therefor voted to grant the petition.
Hearing was also declared open upon application of Albert
Mack Simmons of 103 River St, Arlington, Mass, for a gasoline
tank on Mass. Avenue in Lexington. The Board discussed the
matter and voted not to grant the license.
Letter was received from the Motor Specialities Co. of
Waltham in which they explained that it would not be possible
to send a "portalite" to Lexington tntil.about two weeks as
they were in arrears on shipments. Mr. Smith, agent, stated
that he could come to Lexington and show the types if the Board
desired.
Mr. Scamman called attention to the light used by the
Fire Department and stated that he thought this kind of light

Sorensen for a three car garage on his premises at 92 Woburn
St,
Mrs. Timothy Leary of 23 Waltham St. who owns the property
opposite that of Mr. Sorensen at the cor. of Vine Street
objected to a garage being erected on Mr. Sorensen's land at
the point designated. She stated that Mr. Sorensen had suffi-
cient land on the other side of his house and could have an
entrance on Woburn St. Her objection was that the garage would
annoy the tenants in her house and thereby keep them from
staying there.
Mr. Sorensen not being present to discuss the matter it
was decided to lay the matter over for one week and ask
Mr. Sorensen to be present and also the Building Inspector so
that the matter could be talked over.
Hearing was also declared open upon application of Albert

Letter was received from Edwin Be Worthen in which he
suggested that the Board consider the immediate taking of
land on Mass. Avenue between Middle St. and Maple St. so that
it could be made a 75 foot street.
The Board requested Mr. Duffer to report the details on
the advisability of making a taking along this point in con-
nection with widening from the Maple St. bridge to the end of
Maple St. at Mass. Avenue and Mase. Avenue to the State.Rd.
The Board also informed Mr. Worthen that they had this
matter in mind in connection with making Lowell St, Maple Ste
and this section of Mass. Ave. a State Rd. to connect with the
present State road at each extremity.
Letter was received from the County asking the Board for
the probable appropriation for Waltham St. and Concord Avenue
ecp that they could base their estimate on this amount.
Mr. Richards stated that as soon as Mr. Duffy had his
recommendations ready for work on these streets he would take
the matter up with the State Department of Public Works and
then the County could be informed as to haw much the town
expected to appropriate for these streets.
Mr. Ryder requested a list and description of the triangles
that the Board wished to have temporarily placed within the
jurisdiction of the Park Commissioners, so that he might write
up the article for the Town darrant.
The following triangles were named and Mr. Duffy was
requested to furnish the description of each!
Woburn St. and Mass. Ave.
Oval at Somerset Rd.
Revere and Hancock Ste.
Elm Ave. Bedford & Hancock Ste.
Hancock & Burlington Ste.
Letter was received from Sidney Wrightington in which he
called attention to the fact that it was now an opportune time
in which to have the work of removing the streets and setting
them back along his property on Eliot Road done before the
ground freezes.
It was decided to request Mr. Duffy to have these trees
removed and the sidewalk above Kettell's and about opposite
Parson's house.
Mr. Duffy was requested to look at same and have the
eoncreter repair it before he left town,
Lexington Gas Co. was granted permission to excavate on
Charles St. for the purpose of installing gas service.
Mrs* We L. Barnes, Chairman of the Baptist Church Society,
requested permission to place a sign at the left entrance of
Cary Hall for the week of Nov. 21st to remain until the fair

held on Nov. 26th. The Board informed Mrs. Barnes that they
did not wish to establish a precedent of having ei gne placed in
front of the Town Ball except on the day which the fair is held.
Letter was received from Mr. James M. Robinson of 80 Hancock
St. in reply to the letter of the Board requesting him to remove
that part.of his barn that projected into the highway as a result
of widening? Revere St, Mr. Robinson called attention to the $200
award which has never been paid. This award, according to the lay
out, was specifically awarded to Emma Blodgett former of^mer of the
property. Mr. Robinson was informed that as soon as the work of
removing his barn was completed the proper papers would be executed
and the award paid to the proper parties.
In this connection Mr. Deveau, carpenter for Mr. Robinson
called upon Mr. Duffy on Nov. 15th to secure the line of the street
and is proceeding to remove part of the building to conform with
the new street line.
Notice was received from the Land Court for establishment of
line of property owned by Mary Barrett on Grove St. No. Lexington.
This Grove St. is a private way. The notice was turned over to
the Town Engineer.
The matter of charge for resurfacing water department trenches
was talked over. Mr. Richards informed the Board that he took up
the matter with Mr. Wheeler of the Water Board in January last
and at that time it Teas agreed upon that Mr. Duffy should establish
a per yard basis to charge the water department for resurfacing.
1 No record was ever -made of Mr. Richards' action and therefor noth-
ing done about the matter.
• It was therefor decided to have Mr. Duffy establish a per yard
basis for resurfacing trenches and that the same shall date back
to Jan. 18, 19219 the time which the agreement with the dater &
Sewer Department was made.
Timothy H. O'Connor was granted a permit to move his carpenter
shop from 32 Bedford St. to his present residence on Bedford St.
He was granted the permit on condition that he assume all res-
ponsibility and damage that might occur as a result of the moving
of this building.
A letter was written to the Planning Board acknowledging their
letter relative to set backs on certain streets in the Town. The
Board informed the Planning Board that they understood that they
would do all the preliminary work in establishing these set backs,
and when that was done the Selectmen would continue with the matter.
It was voted to grant $12 pr. week
aid to the family of
Frank Cogger of cor. Oak and
Ellis St.
This man is now in the
Mass. General Hospital ,:4ith
an injured
spine. Settlement appears
to be in Somerville.
It was voted to send Mr.
not pay the bill of $15 for
Guy L. Ordway notice that if he did
care of his wife, in ten daye the
matter would be turned over
to the Town
Counsel for collection.

Mr. Richards called attention to the fact that the Jenney
Manufacturing Co. asked for police protection as a result of
the second break in their station at the cor. of Middle and
Waltham Ste. '
Officer Kew was stationed in the office of Neil McIntosh
next to the Janney station.
