MEETINGS NOV. 1. 1921.
All Members Present,
The records of the last meeting were read and approved.
At the Board's request Mr. C. Caterino of School St.
Lexington came before the Board. The Board called his atten-
tion to the fact that in fixing his driveway he blocked up the
drainage of the street surface water and requested that he fix
his driveway in such a way that the surface water will not be
stopped.
Mr. Caterino again sppoke of the street lights which he
requested some time ago. He was informed that the street
light appropriation would not allow the Board to place any
additional street lights this year.
Mr. William W. Ferguson and son came before the Board
and presented plans for a proposed extension of Forest St.
This proposed extension would be a forty foot street to come
out on Mass, Avenue almost opposite Elm Avenue. Mr. Ferguson
urged that the Board favor this lay out.
The Board informed Mr, Ferguson that they would take
the matter up with the Planning Board.
The Board voted to grant the use of the Town Hall on
the afternoon of Nov. 18th to the Women's Auxiliary of the
American Legion for one half the regular charge.
Mr. Scamnan called attention to an automobile repair
shop run by a Mr. Harmon on Vine Street. Mr. Scamman received
complaints that Mr. Harmon was repairing care late at night
thereby keeping the neighbors from sleeping, It was decided
to call the attention of the Building Inspector to the matter
so that he may ascertain whether or not the shop should be
used as such under the Building Laws.
The bill of $25 sent to the Board by Mr. H. A. Burgess
for cleaning cesspools at Webster and Chapin houses was
returned to Mr. Burgess for collection from the parties order-
ing the work done.
In response to the letter of Attorney Edward C. Stone
for Charles S. Smith in connection with the claim for land
taken for the Schoolhouse at North Lexington, that he meet
with the Board and talk the matter over, Mr. Stone was invited
' to attend the meeting on Tuesday evening next at 8 o'clock P.M.
at which time the Town Counsel was also invited to attend.

Mr. Duffy reported that he had talked with Mr. Kendall
of the County Commiseioner's Office and was informed that the
County office was in a position to take up such matters as
Wood Street relocation, also Concord Avenue relocation.
In this connection the Board wrote a letter to the County
Commissioners requesting that the boundaries of Wood Street
be established.
The Board also called together a meeting of the Special
Highway Committee so that matters such as Concord Avenue
relocation could be discussed. The meeting was called for
Saturday, Nov. 5th at 8 o'clock P. M.
Notice was received from the Department of Public Works
Automobile Division informing the Board that hereafter the
Town will have to supply all forms used in connection with
licensing Motor Vehicles under Chapt. 140, Sec. 59 of the
General Dawe.
Complaint was received from Mr. F. W. Dean of the con-
dition of Eliot and Pelham Roads. The matter was referred to
the Town Engineer and Supt. of Streets.
Mr. Francis S. Dane of 1 Bennington Road complained of
the condition of the corner of Highland Avenue and Washington
Street. His letter was turned over to Mr. Duffy for his
attention.
A letter was written to Mr. H. H. Hanson, General Manager
,
of the Middlesex & Boston St, Rwy Co. in which the Board
called attention to the complaints which have been received
relative to the street cars stopping at the Morton Reed place
and waiting there for eight or ten minutes instead of going
to Summer St. and persons living beyond the Morton Reed place
have to walk the rest of the way. The Board requested that
the Company consider having the care go to Summer Street,
Mr. F. L. Emery suggested that a sign similar to the sign
at the junction of Meriam Street and Mass. Avenue be erected
at Muzzey Street directing persons to the Christian Science
Church. lie was informed that the Town would erect the sign
if the church purchased the same, just as it had done in the
case of the sign at Meriam Street, the same being paid for by
the Episcopal Church people.
Notice was received from the Massachusetts Emergency Com-
mittee in which they stated that a committee of three, namely
Alfred Pierce, Frank W. Herrick and George E. Briggs had been
appointed in the Town of Lexington to be an emergency com-
mittee. It was presumed that this committee was appointed on
account of the strike, and as the same was averted nothing
further was done in the matter by the Board except to acknow-
ledge receipt of the letter. I
Mr. Eugene V. Earle was given permission to excavate on
Wood Street for the purpose of installing a private water
main to his property. He was given this permit on conditions
designated by the Town Engineer.
Letter was received from the Edison Electric Ill. Co.
in which they stated that the total cost of burning the
street lights all night from Oct. 24, 1921 to Dec. 31, 1921
would be $30101.68.
The Insurance Agent was notified to reduce the Moth
Compensation Insurance pay roll to $6000 from $8000. This
policy was ordered renewed through the office of A. A.Marshall
and expires Nov. 239 1921.
Bill of $33.14 for Board of Charlotte Bornstein from
Aug. 30 to Sept. 30, 1921 Q $4 pr* wk at the Child Guardian-
ship Division of the State was sent to Mrs. Samuel Bornstein
grandmother of the child.
Mr. Cotton informed the Board that Mr. Silverman,
attorney for the Bornstein family has advised Mrs and Mr.
Bornstein not to pay any bills for board of this child.
Mr. Cotton stated that he would take the matter up with
Mr. Ryder,
A Public Carriage License was issued to John Rose to
operate two automobiles and eight carriages in the Town of
Lexington, he having filed a satisfactory bond of the
American Surety Co.
