MEETING. JULY 12, 1921.
All Members Present.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved with the
following correction.
In connection with opening the bids for construction of
Bedford St, Mr, Albert B. Tenney of the special Highway Com-
mittee was present. Mr. Geo. W. Taylor being at Rockland, Me.
was communicated with by telephone. It was agreeable to both
Mr. Tenney and Mr. Taylor that the bid for construction work
should go to Mr. John A. Qaff ey, the lowest bidder.
A hearing was declared open upon application of John Rose
for a license to maintain a public garage to hold six care.
Mr. Rose and daughter, and Mr. W. E. Denham were present
to speak for the application.
Mrs. Lion C. Merry, Mr. P. F. Dacey, Mr. Edward H. Mara
and Henry C. Raymond were present. airs. Merry and Mr. Raymond
asked questions in regard to the public garage. No objections
were registered.
The Board took the matter under consideration.
Hearings were advertised in the Minute -man upon appli-
cations of Frank P. kiannigan and Mary L. Russell for licenses
to maintain public garages on their respective places on Muzzey
Street and 347 Masa. Avenue. Their applications being withdrawn
no hearings were held on the same.
It was voted to authorize Edwin B. Worthen to renew incur-
ance to the amount of $11.000 expiring August let, the came
being formerly issued through the office of John G. Fitzgerald.
It was also voted to authorize renewal through the office
of Arthur A. Marshall as follows:

All of the above policies expire Aug. let. 1921.
Letter was received from the Edison Electric Illuminating
Co. of Boston in which they state that they will be unable to
place their wires underground on Bedford Street between Elm Avenue
' and the railroad crossing at North Lexington.
Bid was received for the building of a concrete culvert at
Concord Avenue from John A. Gaffey of Medford for the eum of
$620, and from John T. Walsh of Lexington for $600. The bid was

awarded to Mr. Walsh. '
A letter was received from the school Department in which
they called attention to the injustice of sending that
department a bill for any portion of the sown Reports except
for the school reports alone.
A license was granted to .%amen F. McCarthy to operate
a Public carriage in the town.
Letter was received from the State Department of Public
Works in which they informed the Board that the State would
contribute $22.500 provided the county would contribute a
like amount and the Town the sum of $25,000 towards the con-
etruction of Lowell and Maple Streets.
Cuetance Brothers were awarded the contract for sidewalk
construction work to be done adjacent to the property of the
Lexington Coal Co. on Bedford Street, forth Lexington. The
bid was for 4" granolithic five feet wide provided one half
the cost of building and one half the cost of excavating only
was billed to the town.
In connection with Gas Company excavations or any street
openings in the town, it was voted to have the same referred
to the 'town -Engineer for his approval before the permits for
excavations are granted. It was also voted that all regu-
lations previously made in regard to this matter be hereby
repealed.
lair. Cotton reported that it m -as expected that Samuel
Silber of 49 Sylvia Street would be admitted to the Psycho-
pathic Hospital.
Mr. Cotton also reported that in order to admit Charlotte
Bornstein. illegitimate child of Anne Bornstein to the div-
ieion of State guardianship. it was necessary for the town
in which the child has settlement to assume responsibility
for the care of child. The State Child Guardianship division
was therefor notified that the settlement of the child was in
Lexington* but we will look to the grandparents for reimburse-
ment for the care of this child.
