Dear Dan,
Please consider this letter asa request to create en additional subcommittee to the Town
Celebrations Committee. This subcommittee should consist of three members drawn from the
Ad-Hoc Year 2000 Committee headed by Skip Hayward, I would like to have Skip appointed now
but hold the other two positions until the job descriptions are defined. This subcommittee would
be dissolved in June 2001 A list of the Ad-Hoc Year 2000 Committee members is attached for
reference.
Additionally, the TCC has two vacancies on the subcommittee. As you may know, we have
several people who work with our committee on an Informal basis in support of the Patriot's
Day activities. One of these people, Karen Smith, has indicated a willingness to join our
committee. I have asked Lynne Pease to send her an application which I hope the selectmen will
act upon.
My current practice is to invite prospective members to attend several meetings and
work with us prior to appointments. Our committee has a high workload and I believe it is
useful to expose people to the activities of the committee in an informal way rather than find out
after their appointment that they cannot make the time commitment.
With respect to the proposed Year 2000 activities I believe that It would be useful to
have an informal discussion with the selectmen (is this possible?) and then open the doors for
public input. Do we have:
1 big parade
2. encampment
3. fair
4, all of the above
5. none of the above
At this point we are discussing Skip Hayward's idea for en encampment but there may be other
ideas.
The next few years will be interesting, busy and challenging times for the Town
Celebrations Committee. We are looking forward to it.
With best wishes,
•• B. Graham
Chairman, TCC
