Members not present: Leslie Masson, Mirela Vaso. Guests: Bill Poole and Regina Sutton, volunteer workers. Business Chair Linda opened the meeting at 4:05 and declared that a quorum was present. She announced that Mirela Vaso was officially appointed to the committee at the recent Select Board meeting, and warmly welcomed her on behalf of the committee. The minutes of the meeting of May 2, 2024 were approved on a roll call vote. Database Progress Bill Poole has been very busy researching the extensive existing material on the Revolutionary- era individuals, sites, and events identified in our database. He is creating 250-word “stories” for each monument or memorial and is making excellent progress. Volunteer Regina Sutton has produced several stories as well. Linda reviewed writing assignments with all members. Each member will work on approximately 5 monument stories over the summer. A discussion followed where members offered each other helpful hints. George Gamota will use the STEAM Team’s expertise in Chat GPT to help assemble his profiles of World War II service members who died in service. September 6 Categories Considered for Removal from the Monument Database Each Lexington school is named for a member of the Lexington Militia who fought on Lexington Green on April 19, 1775. These men are already identified and honored elsewhere; therefore, there is no justification to include Lexington schools as historic structures. Also, the awards plaque in the lobby of Lexington High School relates to honors and awards presented annually, and does not fall under the definition of a public monument. The meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m. Next meeting: September 12, 2024. Respectfully submitted, Linda Dixon, Chair
