This class is for . anyone who wants to learn the basics of CPR and first aid for chok- ing. Our instructor will be Norm Porter, RN, from New England CPR and First Aid. Participants will be certified by the American Heart f. r _ Association in Community CPR. Norm is a skilled presenter and trainer, and makes learning CPR fun! *We will be offering two sessions, either Wednesday May 14 or Wednesday June 11. Both classes are limited to 12 participants and will run from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon. There is no cost for this class, but you must sign up with the receptionist. Fiber artist, Barbara Fletcher, will be demonstrating the art of making handmade paper and painting with paper pulp. Barbara has been a fiber /papermaker /sculptor for over 20 years. Her work is included in many collections around the country. Many interesting recycled fibers are used in her work. Finished pieces from the demonstration may be used for cards, stationary or framed wall art. Depending upon interest, Barbara will be following up her demonstration with classes. Space is limited. Finance Matters - Tuesdays, 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. - An open discussion group focused on financial issues of interest to seniors. All are welcome. Lexington Veterans Association - Monday, May 12, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., at Cary Memorial Library (Meeting Room), 1874 Massachusetts Avenue. In June 2007, a new visitor center opened at the Normandy American Cemetery in France, overlooking Omaha Beach. It tells the story of the 9,387 American military, who lost their lives in the D -Day landings and ensuing operations of World War II, who are buried there. Among the exhibits are two films centering on the lives, ser- vice, and surviving families of five soldiers buried in the cemetery, one of whom is Captain Norval Carter, a battalion surgeon in the US 29th Division. Captain Carter's son, Walter Carter, author of No Greater Sacrifice, No Greater Love, will show the two 25- minute films. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Free ECONOMIC STIMULUS REBATE If you have received the IRS packet which contains federal tax form 1040 to fill out for the economic stimulus rebate of $300, please note that the deadline is OCTOBER 15th, 2008. There will be more appointments scheduled at the Senior Center for assistance in completing the federal tax forms for the purpose of obtaining the economic stimulus rebate. MONEY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM: ASSISTANCE WITH MONTHLY BILL PAYING Coping with bills and the mechanics of monthly bill paying can be overwhelming. Could you or someone you know use help keeping up with your monthly bills? The Money Management Program (co- sponsored by AARP, EOEA, and Mass Home Care) can provide a volunteer to assist with bill paying including: making a budget, sorting bills, writing checks (for YOU to sign), and reconciling checkbooks to bank statements. Tele- phone reassurance gives peace of mind to seniors who live alone, and offers a friendly voice - someone to care and listen. Our Telecare Program provides a daily, safety -check phone call, Monday through Friday. Each senior in the program will receive the call from a Senior Center volunteer at a designated time - usu- ally between 8:30 and 10:30 AM. If the call is not answered, the volunteer is trained to alert a member of the Social Services staff who will proceed to check on the senior's safety. The Parkinson's Disease support group will meet 4th Monday of each month at 1:00 pm at the Senior Center in the Muzzey Room. Bereavement & Friendship Group - Meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. All are welcome, and no registration is necessary. 1:00 -2:30 pm. Prostate Cancer Group - This group is for men who currently have prostate cancer or survivors who wish to share the knowledge they have gained with others. Meets third Wednesday of each month, 1:00 -2:30 pm. Caregivers Group - Group meets 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, 1:00 –2:30 pm. A support group for caregivers of individuals with memory impairment. The group is ongoing and there is no fee.
