Minutes for the September 28th, 2017 meeting.
Lexington Center Committee members: Michael Boudett, Katherine Huang, Frederic Johnson, Howard
Levin, Pamela Lyons, Jerry Michelson (Chair), Pamela Shadley.

1. David Pinsonneault: DPW is seeking funds for a survey of additional on-street parking. The
Center Streetscape Project is proceeding with 25%design incorporating the modifications from
the Ad Hoc Committee. DPW will be seeking 100% design funding at the 2018 Spring Town
Meeting. Meanwhile DPW is engaged in repairs to streetlights, pruning, weeding and localized
repairs to the brick sidewalks. Columbus Day marks the last weekend for which there is
weekend trash pickup. The parklett furniture will be taken down. Jerry noted, correctly, that
the bird droppings are piling up.
2. Melinda Walker, Chair of the Lexington Housing Partnership, and Gerry Paul discussed a
proposal to build affordable senior housing in the Depot Lot in the area between Merriam
Street and the ticket booth.
The LCC voted 7-0 to "endorse the concept of obtaining a feasibility study for the possible use of
senior focused housing and possible mixed use without the loss of parking in the center."
3. The LCC voted 6-Oto approve the minutes of the August, 2017 meeting.
4. Melisa Tintotcalis: The price tag for the most recent design for the Visitors Center is $4.3
million.
The LCC voted 6-0 to "support additional design money for the Visitor's Center with the
recommendation that the architect be given guidance in the amount of$2.5 to $3 million for
construction costs"
Melisa also raised concerns around town policies (zoning and historic) that thwart our efforts to
increase vitality in the center.
Megan Zammuto: The Bike Share program will launch this fall. Carl Valente is working with The
Lexington Historical Society to do a land swap for the triangle that is in the "bike node" area. There
was also some discussion about use of town land for various events-why some entities or uses are
permitted but not others.
