Emergency Preparedness Report
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. Wendy Heiger-Bernays,PhD, served as Chair Person.
David Neylon,Public Health Nurse,reviewed the Community Health Report;
Youth Mental Health First Aid classes are being offered at the Lexington Community Center on Saturday, September 23rd
and Saturday, September 30th. 14 Participants attended the September 23rd session. YMHFA classes will also be offered to
Lexington Public School teachers as part of their professional development on October 3rd, 10"', and 17th.
A kiosk for over the counter and prescription medications and a kiosk for medical sharps were approved at the September
7d'Lexington Historic Districts Commission meeting. The kiosks will be located outside of the rear entrance to the
Lexington Town Offices Building and will supplement the existing medical waste collection program offered by
Lexington Office of Public Health.
125 Lexington seniors received flu shots at the September 13th senior flu clinic at St. Brigids Keilty Hall. Of the 125
participants, 84 received the Fluzone High Dose vaccine, licensed for use in those 65 years of age and older.
Influenza vaccine will be available for Lexington residents at the Lexington Public Schools Administrative Offices
Building gymnasium on Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
Public Hearing- 32 Tyler Road;
Director Cody called to order the public hearing for 32 Tyler Road.Mr. Cody introduced the members of the panel and
explained the rules for the hearing. After listening to all testimony the hearing was closed. After some discussion Burt
Perlmutter, M.D.proposed a motion that stated, "The Lexington Board ofHealth is in agreement that the home at 32 Tyler
Road is Unfit for Human Habitation and the Order to vacate issued on September 8, 2017 remain as written." David
Geller, M.D., seconded the motion. All were in favor. Copies of the final determination will be on file on Monday,
October 2, 2017 in the Office of Public Health and in the Town Clerk's Office.
Public Hearing- Bodyworks Regulation;
Director Cody called to order the public hearing for proposed Bodyworks Regulation. Mr. Cody introduced the members
of the panel and explained the rules for the hearing. After listening to all testimony the hearing was closed. The hearing
officers will review comments and make amendments to the regulation if necessary. The regulation will be voted on at a
posted Board of Health meeting.
Environmental Health report was reviewed and the following topics were discussed;
48 Lincoln Street; The Office of Public Health received notification that the referenced property may be abandoned. The
Health Director is currently investigating the claim further, and will present further information at the October 18"'BOH
meeting date.
198 Follen Road; The Office of Public Health was notified by a resident that the referenced property had significant
vegetative overgrowth, and a concern expressed for the current occupant. The Health Director is currently investigating
the claim further, and will present further information at the October 18"'BOH meeting date.
1798 Massachusetts Avenue; On September 19, 2017, the Office of Public Health received notification by a tenant that a
dangerous living situation existed in the unit. The tenant requested a State Sanitary Code inspection of the dwelling that
they currently occupy. Gerard Cody,Public Health Director,inspected the property referenced above on September 19.
The dwelling contained violations that may endanger the health and safety of the occupant.An order to correct all
violations was issued to the Owner. This matter, along with any new information,will be reviewed at the October 18"'
BOH meeting date.
Sustainable Lexington Building material policy-update; the drafted Red List substances for building product selection will
be reviewed by the BOH Chair, Wendy Heiger-Bernays,PhD.
The Emergency Preparedness report was reviewed and the following topics were discussed;
On Thursday, June 14"', the Lexington Office of Public Health hosted a table top exercise (TTX) for Region 4a. The TTX
reviewed Office of Public Health emergency plans and used fictitious scenarios to demonstrate how these plans would be
exercised in the event of an Emergency Dispensing Site.
Region 4AB HMCC updates; Ilya Glick is the newly appointed Grants Manager with the Region 4AB Health and Medical
Coordination Coalition via Cambridge Health Alliance.
Region 4AB Seminar; The Metro Regional preparedness Coalition hosted a regional seminar which helped review three
annexes to the regional Emergency Coordination Plan. The seminar took place on June 8"'in Dedham.
Burt Perlmutter, M.D,motioned that the meeting be adjourned and Wendy Heiger-Bernays,PhD, Chair, seconded. All
were in favor. The meeting adjourned at 8:22 PM.
It was noted that the next meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2017
