In Remembrance
The Social Services Department is saddened by the recent loss of coworker Amy Yang, former Outreach Social
Worker, who died after a battle with cancer on November 29, 2004. Amy joined the staff of the Lexington Senior
Center as the Outreach Social Worker in 1998. In this role, she ran the Senior Health Monitor and Friend to Friend
programs, visited Lexington seniors, and helped coordinate home care and other services. Amy continued to serve
the seniors of Lexington during and after her first treatment for cancer in 2001. In 1999,Amy helped launch the
Asian Senior Outreach Program, which reaches more than 100 Asian seniors living in Lexington. The program,
now in its fifth year, has grown to include biweekly support groups,English as a Second Language classes, and im-
migrant settlement programs. Many Lexington seniors enjoyed the annual cultural exchange programs run by Ms.
Yang and others at the Chinese New Year.
Amy will be remembered at the Senior Center for her selfless care of others and her quiet, thoughtful manner. She
was a valued coworker, setting an example us all to live and work by. A room at the Senior Center will be dedi-
cated in Amy's name during the summer.
