Meeting Times. Monthly, as needed
Description: The Traffic Mitigation Group coordinates review of traffic related issues resulting
from new development, and oversees implementation of mitigation activities. Working with input
from other Town committees, the Group will identify priority areas for transportation
improvements,negotiate traffic mitigation measures as part of project review process, and make
recommendations to the Board of Selectmen pertaining to expenditures for mitigation
commitments. This group will also administer contracts for mitigation projects, and monitor
execution of Transportation Demand Management plans.
Specifically the Traffic Mitigation Group will:
• work with other committees to identify needed transportation infrastructure
improvements, and prioritize mitigation projects to address conditions that would be
adversely impacted by new development;
• review traffic studies for new development proposals to determine if transportation
improvements are warranted due to adverse impacts on levels of service and/or public
safety resulting from the proposed project;
• coordinate negotiations with property owners to develop and implement traffic mitigation
measures and/or transportation demand management programs;
• advise the applicable Special Permit Granting Authority of the agreed upon mitigation
measures;
• review estimated costs to construct and monitor expenditures of mitigation commitments;
• oversee implementation of transportation improvements, including soliciting consultants/
contractors, and administering the contracts through project completion;
• recommend to the Board of Selectmen the dispersal of funds for mitigation projects; and,
• issue an annual report on compliance with the accepted Transportation Demand
Management and traffic mitigation plans.
Criteria for Membership: Core membership will consist of the chairperson of the Boards that
serve as Special Permit Granting Authorities, or their designated representatives, and staff from
town departments that oversee development review and transportation matters. Ancillary
members will consist of representatives of town committees charged with transportation
initiatives, who will provide input, on an as needed basis, to the Traffic Mitigation Group when
determining priorities.
