Howard seconded the motion which passed unanimously. Administrative Update Staffing Update We anticipate a full time children’s room staff to retire in the summer. Other currents openings are one 15 hours per week children’s room position, a full adult services position and an upcoming part time adult services positions. We have an opportunity to create a full time children’s position by combining two part time positions. We are working with HR on the feasibility. New Business Koren outlined a potential donation of 200+ boxes of books. After a discussion trustees determined the best course of action is to make a suggestion of alternative places for the donation. Meeting Room Emily presented a meeting room request from a parent who wants to host journal reading club for grades 6 – 8. Trustees discussed the request and determined that we cannot take on partnering with parents. This differs from national organizations such as “Girls Who Code”. We do partner with those groups since they are national organizations. Emily provided examples of groups requesting meeting room approval that have a political agenda. The trustees discussed how to keep rooms available for library programs and programs that match library’s mission, versus making rooms available to the public. This issue continues to come forward more frequently. Koren will work the town counsel regarding questions on political groups using the room. Trustees recommended waiting to approve any new political or activist groups until town council can weigh in on this issue. Koren asked the trustees if they had any concerns about Lexicon, a comic convention that Lexington High School organizes, happening her at the library. She asked if there were any concerns about allowing the authors and students sell their creative works during the program. The trustees did not have any concerns about this. Scholarship Naming Trustees discussed an opportunity to name the staff professional development scholarship in honor of Norman Cohen. After a discussion, Howard moved to name staff scholarship to the Norman P. Cohen Staff Development Scholarship. Jessie seconded, the motion passed unanimously. Adjourn Howard made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:30 PM. Jessie seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
