Member Topics:
-PTA Fundraiser: March 17th at Cary Hall
- Teachers have really stepped up and offered many auction items.
-210 people currently signed up to attend.
Update on the building project
-Community Fundraising to create a student mural in the new building, done by the
same artist who created the Hasting’s mural- David Fichter.
-Louise talked to David and Denisco about preserving our current mural through
photographs to bring to the new building.
-Ball park estimate: 30,000 to create.
-After talking to school community about private donors, it is not the policy to put
names on plaques to represent the families who donated. Would be presented as
a gift from the Hastings PTA.
-Projected two years of fundraising to raise money for the mural, starting on
March 17th
-People will not be as drawn to giving because names will not be recognized and
its two years down the road.
-What would the fundraising look like to get us to the projected value, it won’t
come out of the money for the new school.
-Will this year’s current 5th graders be able to contribute to the mural?
-Could be presented as from the Hastings PTA and the greater community.
-For the fundraiser on the 17th, have a slide show of the mural to remind
community of how much we love it.
-Connect with Hastings alumni through their high school reunion to get the word
out
- Sustainability in the new building- The selectmen and the school committee agreed
that the building would be designed with no fossil fuel- will be an electric building, which
adds cost to the project. CO2 in the classroom is controversial- 600 parts per million is
optimal. This would cause very dry air in the winter- eye irritability, bloody noses, skin
irritability, etc. The desire is to get it to 710-800 parts per million to maximize the fresh air
intake.
- Voting in November of 2017- after it goes to the town meeting. If the vote is approved,
allows for early bidding projects- allowing for construction to begin as early as possible.
-February 15th MSBA board met- they voted us through with the new design
-One wing of the building will be very public- allowing it to be used by the public. The
other wing will be closed off- where the classrooms are.
