HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-06-14-TOUR2-min Town of Lexington Tourism Committee Dawn McKenna, Chair (781) 862-0500 ext 84585 Minutes Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 4:30 – 6:00 pm Parker Room (Ground Floor Town Office Building) Members Present: Kerry Brandin, Margaret Coppe, Bebe Fallick, Jon Himmel, Dawn McKenna, Wim Nijenberg Staff Present: Megan Zammuto Center Committee Liaison: Fred Johnson Guests Present: Richard Canale, Matt Mallio, Richard Pagett Members Absent: Marsha Baker, Trisha Kennealy, Leeying Wu 1)Selectmen Goal Setting The Tourism Committee reviewed the draft FY18 Goal Setting Memo to the Board of Selectmen. The committee provided edits and feedback to the goals, including the priority order of the goals. The committee decided to reduce the amount of words in the memo to create a more concise list of goals. A motion was made to accept the goal setting memo, with edits discussed today. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously. 2)Minutes th The committee reviewed the minutes from the May 10 Tourism Committee meeting. th A motion was made to accept the minutes from the May 10 Tourism Committee meeting. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously. 3)Updates & Miscellaneous Richard Canale discussed the comprehensive plan process that will begin this July. The oPlanning Board is looking for participation from the Board of Selectmen, and the School Committee. The Planning Board is also looking to establish an advisory committee made up of 12 people to work on this project, consisting of committee members and residents in Lexington. Richard also discussed the work that is being done on the Battle Road Scenic Byway committee. The committee is currently focusing on the identity of the byway and a corridor management plan. The committee is currently working on designing a website so host information about the area. Richard asked the committee to review the content for the website. The committee asked about the firm used to design the website, and the committee agreed that the site should be coordinated with the Tourism pages on the Town of Lexington website. 4)Visitors Center A group of stakeholders has met twice to discuss potential conceptual designs for the Visitors Center project. The next thth workshop will be held on either June 26 of June 27. The Permanent Building Committee and the Historical Districts th Commission will hold a joint meeting to discuss the project on Jul 12. 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 5)Lexington Historical Society Tour and Signage The committee reviewed an email from Masha Baker who could not attend this meeting. The committee discussed the signage project, locations of signs, and content. The committee also discussed the Historical Society audio tour of the Battle Green. This tour will be included with the three house ticket, and it will also be available for individual purchase. 6)Lexington Local First initiative Dawn McKenna mentioned the Lexington Local First Imitative. The group was looking for support from the Tourism Committee. The committee decided to discuss this topic at a later meeting.
