........... ..................
a. Community forum 2 tomorrow from 6:30-8:30pm
b. SMMA is the architecture firm selected to do design and feasibility studies.
SMMA was the top choice of the 3 Lexington community members on the MSBA
selection team; they're proven in the industry, and proven in going through the
MSBA process. They've done 17 high schools throughout the state, including
each of the three types of construction required.
c. The visioning team will meet 4 times Dec-March; it will be comprised of 2/3
educators, some students, parents, leaders.
d. Discussion of their slides showing very very initial ideas for each type of
construction. There is lots of talk of sustainability, building towards high LEED
standards; do they want net zero, real estate of roofs for energy generation or
green spaces.
e. Discussion about more vocational ed space in the school? It keeps coming up;
students used to be able to do half day at Minuteman but can't now. The question
is do we want to offer vocational ed at LHS, if so, what and how much?
f. Timeline: funding approval in 2025, prob breaking ground shortly thereafter.
Hopefully move in in 2029.
g. Dore and Whittier(the OPM) have been running lots of the meetings so far;
Andrew's sense is that SMMA might be running more in the future.
3. Working towards concision of existing LHS Innovation Plan
a. Andrew passed out copies of the plan; the superintendent says there's too much
jargon, and it's too long. Groups took each objective and highlighted the j argon-y
and redundant/wordy sections, then discussed each section as a whole. Andrew
took notes and will use them to help revise the plan.
4. Questions about the Math curriculum for the 2025 school year
a. no curricular changes planned for 9th grade math next year(no Honors For All).
Andrew says there continues to be some discussion around the Math I class,
which is mostly taken by students transferring in from other places with weaker
Lexington High School 1251 Waltham Street I Lexington,MA 102421
math progs; there is some preference to get everyone starting at Math 2. Math curr
review team piloting an illustrative math curr working towards the goal of having
students come in at the Math 2 level; there are fewer and fewer math 1 students
every year.
5. Honors for All- ELA Update
a. Question: what is our metric for success going to be? Running reports on the
(maybe?) DFNI list demonstrates students who are struggling (at a pretty high
level) across the school: no difference between last year and this year. Will
continue to monitor, can do deeper dive in the future.
6. Adjourn at 7:15
