Minutes of Nov 11, 1966 paragraph 8 Correct to read "In order to help the Planning Bd.
coordinate physical planning, Bryson moved and the committee voted unanimously "
ICr Vernon Page presented sug •estions for restructuring certain areas of gov't Offered
for discussion were 1 Elimination of elected Cemetery Commissioners assigning care and
maintenance functions to the DPW (During dmscussion it was pointed out that few additional
functions such as sale of lots which fall under purview of commissioners could be handled
by oat appointee--not determined if such function could be given to administrative staff
member ) 2 The following to be placed under the Selectmen, possibly :admin Ass't0
centralized purchasing of ail supplies and equipment with exception of school texts(the
ornering but not choice of latter to be handled by purchasing agent);(e) Centralized
bargaining agency for all town employees including nonprofessional school staff;
cooperative use of all town equipment by all town departments e,g, data processing
equ. 2ment of school. committee; 0, appointment of a- building expert asunerinten eat. of
all kublic ,Juildings to serve directly under Selectmen, not DPIti, to be ex officio
member of all bui.iding committees and to head a department which would handle maintenance
of ell public buildings ( discussed the fragmented maintenance functions now operating--
separate taffs for schools, library, fire stations, DPW town offices The loss of
the building maintenance functions now carried out by Hari could be offset by assigning
subdivision control work, cemeteries---) Adams suggested the possibility of a building
department headed by the building inspector with adequate staff to handle all inspection
and maintenance functions
Respectfully submitted,
Margery M Battin
