Discuss Committee sponsorship of the Bikeway Block Party. The Committee discussed the Bikeway Block Party (BBP) scheduled for Sept 15, 2024. We all know about this event and many of us have already signed up to volunteer. Jim explained that if the Committee becomes a sponsor of the Bikeway Block Party there are many advantages that are unlocked from the Town’s perspective such as using Town resources, specifically the insurance, access to DPW resources and the use of Town chairs and tents. Other sponsor of the BBP include the Friends of Lexington Bikeways (FOLB), and the Munroe Center of the Arts. The BBP has already received grant money from some Town organizations including the Blossom Fund. Tom asked if Bedford and Arlington will also be asking their Bike Committees to be sponsors. Jim replied yes, that the Bedford and Arlington Bike Committees are putting on the event in their respective towns. Jim made the motion for the LBAC to be a sponsor of the Bikeway Block Party. Sponsorship by our Committee unlocks the Town from using resources, specifically the insurance, DPW resources, and use of chairs and tents. Suzan asked if there were enough participants and Jim replied that there are. Jim commented that this sponsorship is not financial in any way but just a Town Committee sponsorship in order to unlock Town resources. Betty asked if the BBP is part of the 250th event. Jim explained that the BBP is a participating organization of the 250th but not a partner, so therefore, the BBP cannot use Town resources through the 250th. Jim made the Motion: The Lexington Bicycle Advisory Committee will be a sponsor of the Bikeway Block Party Tom seconded the motion. The vote was taken and the Motion passed unanimously. The Committee then discussed future meetings and decided to meet in person for the August 15th meeting. Betty took the action to confirm our room for the August meeting.
