HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-09-12-DAC-min.pdf DESIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING SEPT. 12, 1989 PRESENT : DAC - Bob Bradley, Tom Coffman, John Frey, Chair, Albert Huang, Don Olson, Betsy Whitman, Clerk, Rick Bechtel, Betty, South Lexington. I MINUTES of the Aug. 8, 1989 meeting were approved. LINCOLN ST MOUNDS need follow. Suggested that Jack would speak to Dale Gaasland. D A C COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP John spoke of it being the time of year for new or re-appointments to be made. It would be desirable for j to come on and 3 to go off each year. Elaine Adler has expressed a wish to resign, due to her work schedule. Her contributions will be greatly missed. Don Olson felt that his attendance rate would make him more useful in an associate capacity. Bob Bradley finds he will be in France most of the fall. He, too, would like to act ass an associate. They will come to meetings as they can, be involved in sub-committees, and receive the minutes . They are such resources, we hope they will stay very involved. (Editor's note? ) Rick has submitted a resumes, Kerry Brandin has expressed interest, and John Vinton has worked hard in the Guidelines development. The composition of the DAC was discussed. Landscape architects Tom Ryan and his wife were mentioned. John will talk with Jack. LIGHTING Don Olson produced a remarkable map graphically illustrating lighting in the Center. The Town lighting committee will soon be named. There is still a moratorium on replacements Tom spoke of private security lights and the zoning by-law to along with the public guidance. Later in the meeting it was decided that lighting was so complicated that we could not expect David Dixon to explore it within their contract. We felt the drawings should not be included for lights . DAVID DIXON'S WORKING DRAFT We had received this on the evening of Sept. 11. Parking lots were discussed. Municipal lots don't conform to zoning ordnance. Loss of slces due to planting. How many? School Administration Building driveway could be closed. Definiton of Russell Square would be useful. Albert suggested small sketches . Page 1 y% Waltham and Muzzey Streets had been omitted. The alley between the library and the Spectrum Music building is a gateway also. The sketches at the end are a little confusing. Is Russell Square really our •4th priority? It{ was •decided that_we would each submit butt comments in writing to John. He and the steering committee will review and pass on useful comments to David Dixon John needs there by September 2B. NATIONAL PARK John had been in communication with people interested in the impact of the Park. Do we wish them to be more involved in Lexington? The issue of tour buses arises. This is an unofficial committee which we could join and make suggestions. ADOPT A SPACE COMMITTEE will meet Sept. 13. Tom put forth the idea of "linkage" for islands or alleys .
