1 Minutes
a The minutes of the December 13, 1989 meeting were approved as
corrected, noting that J Vinton and E Alder were also in attendance
at that meeting
2 Design Guidelines
a It was noted that David Dixon & Associates (DD&A) are scheduled to
meet with the Lexington Center Committee on January 19 Meetings
with other committees will follow
b W Pierce reported on DD&A's meeting with the Historic Districts
Commission. He indicated that there was a lack of structure to the
meeting which resulted in some confusion as to DD&A's assignment
Discussion followed
c Suggestions for making future meetings with DD&A more productive
included informing DD&A in advance regarding the particular role of
any given group; provide an introduction for DD&A at the outset of
the meeting; have DD&A prepare a meeting agenda together with a
statement of objectives
d It was reported that DD&A's schedule was just beginning There was
discussion regarding the need to have a progress report at the
upcoming Town Meeting
3 Affordable Housing
a J Vinton described the effort being made to bring together
neighborhood groups on January 26, 1989 to discuss Lexington's
affordable housing concerns A long-range goal for this dialogue
will be to evolve appropriate development criteria that will be
mutually acceptable by the town and neighborhoods so that progress
can be made on this important need

b W Pierce described a number of the physical design issues generally
associated with affordable housing Discussion followed
c It was pointed out that the role of the Design Advisory Committee
will be primarily related to the review of specific proposals
d J Eddison described progress to date for developing affordable
housing on various undeveloped school sites He indicated that
recent studies look to a combination of housing, recreation and
conservation.
4 Selectman's Breakfast
a J Frey sought from the group a volunteer to represent the Committee
at the January 20, 1989 breakfast B Whitman agreed to attend
5 New Business
a J Eddison announced that the new Lexington Tree Warden is Dale
Gaasland and he will begin February 1, 1989 Mr Gaasland will also
be Superintendent of Parks and Grounds It was suggested that the
Design Advisory Committee meet with him at some early opportunity to
open a dialogue on issues of design concern in Lexington and to
establish communication ties
b D. Olson suggested that the Committee develop a long-range agenda
that can help make effective use of meeting time It was agreed that
everyone give further thought to this and provide John with topics
c M. Battin announced that there will be a tour of lighting issues on
January 23, 1989 at 6 30 p m. starting at the town offices An
agenda and notes prepared by the East Lexington Community Association
were distributed
The next meeting of the Design Advisory Committee will be on Tuesday, February
14, 1989 at 8 p m. It should be noted that DD&A will be joining us The
Lexington Center Comnmittee will also be in attendance Because of the need
for additional space, the meeting will be held in Esterbrook Hall
