Tom Coffman Date: January 12, 1988 To: DAC Attendees J Frey (Chair) J Eddison N Bogen B Whitman D Olson T Coffman Agenda attached Minutes of last meeting (12/15/87) were accepted as presented with some typos corrected. Old and new business 1 Lexington Center Consultant Due to budget constraints, the hiring of a consultant may be in jeopardy for this year The DAC must make it more attractive to the Board of Selectmen and eventually Town meeting The major question will be "why do we need an outside consultant"? We must attempt to stretch dollars if we have to, that is, accomplish the work by defining sequence of tasks Is other funding available? A private corporation in Lexington might provide dollars for such a study Are interns available? This requires a great deal of supervision. Board of Selectmen will be reviewing the town budget beginning on 1/25/88 We need to get information to them within the next two weeks Design Advisory Committee Page Two DAC strategy will be to adequately define the entire scope of work for the project by tasks and seek approval for initial tasks only It is important that everyone understand our final goal Part of the strategy is to enlist support from other interested committees, such as Lexington Center Committee, Historic District Commission, etc The base information task is very important D Olson will check with B Ossman re aerial photos which may be of use and, if needed, look into costs of "shooting" a limited area Interest in this information is not limited to DAC but is needed by the Town in general This should be at the core of our argument 2 Minuteman Bikeway There will be another meeting on 1/28/88 with the Board of Selectman at 8 00 P.M. to review current design. DAC should be represented John Chandler will provide information regarding available funds from the lottery for artwork for such projects Artwork includes gates, bollards, etc 3 Nominees for DAC member to replace Dan Roos who has resigned We need to continue to look for someone with skills in graphic design. T Coffman and D Olson will follow up possible candidates 4 Selectmen's Breakfast Next breakfast is 1/29/88 to discuss items of concern from various committees J Frey will attend and use forum to discuss our ideas re the Lexington Center Consultant 5 Recreation Department request for assistance J Halverson requests DAC advise re reuse of existing playground equipment J Frey will call to express interest and contact M. Weinmayr to see if he would like to assist 6 U S S Lexington Memorial Major concerns re location has been resolved Lighting remains a question.
