HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-10-13-DAC-min.pdf Li //1 LEXINGTON DESIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE � ) Minutes of Meeting of October 13, 1987 Present John Frey (Chairman), Don Olson, Betsy Whitman, Norma Bogen Also, Jack Eddison, Board of Selectmen Members were asked to hereafter call John Frey at 864-2104 (home) or 489- 3800 (office) if unable to attend a Committee meeting The minutes of the meeting of September 15 were approved with a minor correction "Norma Bogen reported on a conversation with Margery Battin " No additional prospective members of the DAG have come forward as a result of John's and Betsy's letter in the Minuteman However, it was agreed that the publicity was useful John reported on his attendance at the Community Playground meeting on September 16 He talked to Bob Leathers, who is designing the playground along with the parents and children, about the concept of the design and the scale of the various elements It was suggested that someone from the DAC attend the next meeting of the Committee which focuses on design John also reported on his attendance at the Selectmen's Breakfast on October 2, to which the Chairmen of Town Committees were invited This provided an opportunity for them to talk with each other and to learn what each Committee is doing John also reported on his meeting with John Davies, Chairman of the HDC, and Marge Battin, Chairman of the LCC The HDC likes to look at each issue on its own merits If, however, design guidelines for the Center were developed, the HDC would be willing to review them and to work with the LCC and the DAC The HDC would welcome attendance by LCC members at its regular meetings Norma will make some calls to Concord to determine whether the the town has design guidelines for the Center, and if not, try to find out what has been reponsible for its attractiveness John will prepare a draft summary of DAC activities to date for inclusion in the Town Annual Report DAC members will also have a group photo taken for the Report A tentative date of October 24 was set John's summary will also be sent to the members of the DAG to let them know about DAC activities They will be invited to attend meetings if they would like to do so, and will be asked about their willingness to serve on various subcommittees (such as signs, lighting, Emery Park, base map, etc ) A list of all DAG members will be included in the mailing Don Olson, John Frey, and Bob Ossman will get together to discuss the progress of the base map There was a general discussion about signs and the possibility of setting up a subcommittee to do some work on this Ways of getting leads on people with expertise on signage and graphics were explored Betsy will contact the Council on the Arts for leads, and Don will do some searching as well A replacement is needed for Dick Morehouse who has resigned from the DAC Three names were suggested, and Jack Eddison will contact them in the order named to see if they are interested Lou Bakanowski (if he is still a Lexington resident), Tom Coffman, and Norman Fletcher If approved by the Selectmen, the DAC will also be expanded to nine members in order to assure sufficient attendance at meetings Jack pointed out that the Selectmen need a plan of attack so that they can respond to it Any request for funds should be accompanied by written material that describes the purpose of the funds and the amount required The next meeting of the DAC will be on November 10 at 8 00 p m.
