The role of the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway Implementation
Committee is to assist the Selectmen in monitoring the design and
construction of the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway For most of the

chairman, Selectman John C Eddison, who represented Lexington in
the meetings of the state level Bikeway Advisory Committee The
latter committee selected Vollmer Associates on January 30, 1987,

Bikeway Committee, the Bedford Bikeway Committee and about two dozen
interested citizens The representatives of Vollmer Association
displayed a preliminary design plan covering the 5 5 miles of
bikeway witnin Lexington, discussed the plan in detail and requested
comments from the audience. The members of the Lexington Committee
offered their comments as individuals to the consultants at that
time
The Lexington Committee met again on December 8 to review the
design concept and to formulate its recommendations to the Selectmen
and the consultants Those recommendations were presented in a
memorandum forwarded to the consultant which addressed the issues of
paving width, safety at intersections, signage, screening , security
and landscaping,
