October 17 2004
PRESENT Richard Pagett, Hank Manz, Tony Close, Dan Fenn, Bill Kennedy Evelyn
Silber and Lori Manning, Clerk.
The committee met to discuss some developments in their investigation of two of the
three candidates. The committee continued to hear troubling stories involving one and
had received bad references on the other.
Members of the committee discussed what direction they should take next. Eliminating
these two candidates would put the committee back to square one. Mr. Kennedy
suggested hiring a consultant to work on just the budget. Ms. Silber suggested asking the
Board to reconsider their decision to restrict candidates from applying for the Regular
Town Manager's position. Mr. Manz suggested the committee take another look at the
resumes they had received but chose not to interview
The committee returned to their previous discussion involving two of the candidates.
They decided the candidate that had been given bad references should be eliminated from
the list to be forwarded to the Board. The other candidate had received high
recommendations as far as his technical abilities to perform the job. But a shadow of
doubt was cast over this candidate because of a situation that took place during his
previous employment. The committee decided they would each reconnect with their
reference sources to see if they could shed any light on the situation.
The committee also decided to interview two more candidates. Interviews will be
scheduled for Thursday October 21, 2004
The meeting adjourned at 6:30.
