October 21, 2004
PRESENT Richard Pagett, Hank Manz,Dan Fenn, Bill Kennedy Tony Close,Evelyn
Silber,Deborah Brown, George Burnell and Lori Manning, Clerk.
The committee discussed whether they want to consider interviewing a candidate who is
only available on a part time basis. Many members of the committee felt this was a
concept worth investigating. However whoever is chosen for the position whether they
are full or pat time must be available for meetings with the BOS and the community
Deborah Brown agreed that evening summits and BOS were meetings the Interim Town
Manger must attend. She is not aware of this particular candidates availability for such
meetings.
Richard Pagett stated that Linda Vine had been the Acting Town Manager for two-
months and is doing a splendid job. The committee discussed having Ms. Vine continue
in the position and getting her support to help get through the budget process.
The committee interviewed a candidate. The interview followed the same process as the
previous interviews. Each member asked one or two questions of the candidate and at the
conclusion of the committees questioning the candidate was given the opportunity to ask
questions of the community
After the interview the committee discussed the candidate. Initial reactions were that he
would be facing several new situations in the Interim position. He wouldn't be able to
'hit the ground running"
The committee further discussed the kind of support Ms. Vine would need to continue in
the role of Acting Town Manager and who could give that support. Current Town
Employees, members of the financial committees and an outside consultant were options
that were discussed.
There was also further discussion about the first candidate the committee had
interviewed. Some members of the committee were still interested in putting him
forward for an interview with the Selectmen, while others didn't feel the community
would be very accepting of him and worry about how this would affect his performance.
The committee decided to recommend two external candidates to the Board of Selectmen
for their consideration. They also decided to recommend that the Board consider, as a
third and equal option, asking Linda Vine to continue to serve as Acting Town Manager
until a regular Town Manager is hired. These recommendations were unanimous.
The meeting adjourned at 5 40 p.m.
