The committee decided to meet every Tuesday night from 7.00—9.00 PM until such time as it may be necessary to meet more often. As long as there are enough members present for a quorum the meetings will take place. Members who are not able to attend will be updated as to what they have missed. The committee discussed the interview process and the confidentiality of that process. Initial screening and interviewing of candidates will be done by the Search Committee in executive session. The Search Committee's recommendations for further consideration will be forwarded to the Board of Selectmen and final interviews will be conducted by the Board in open session. Selection of a new town manager is the responsibility of the Board. The committee reviewed the draft of a job description prepared by Linda Vine and Candy McLaughlin. It had been reviewed and tweaked in a meeting Bill Kennedy Evelyn Silber and Richard Pagett had with the Senior Management Team last week. After discussion some changes were made and it will be forwarded to the Board of Selectmen for their review and adoption at their next meeting. The job description will be used for the Interim position but has been written so that it can also be used for the Regular Town Manager's position if the Board decides to do that, Given the importance of keeping the community informed about the process of recruiting an Interim Town Manager, it was decided that iterations of the position description should be made available to the community as it is reviewed and tweaked. Copies of the draft job description will be made available at the TMMA Meeting scheduled for Wednesday September 8th and Hank Manz will also arrange for its posting on the TMMA Web Site. The committee then discussed the advantages and disadvantages of permitting the Interim Town Manager to apply for the Regular Town Manager Position. It was felt the Search Committee should make a recommendation to the Board, but a conclusion on the recommendation was deferred until our next meeting to give members a chance to digest the arguments both for and against that were advanced in the discussion. The first step for advertising will be to get ads in the Boston Globe; the BostonWorks, MMA and town web sites; and published in the next MMA Beacon newsletter. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to adjourn at 9:20. The next meeting of the Interim Town Manager Search Committee will be September 14 2004 at 7.00 p.m. in Room G-15 of the Town Office Building.
