CENTER REVITALIZATION COMMITTEE
The Center Revitalization Committee concentrated upon completing
the elements of the Central Business District Master Plan which will
be presented to the Selectmen in FY 1986 Extensive data was collected
and analyzed by the Land Use Subcommittee Using their results as a
starting point, the Center Revitalization Committee is now formulating
land use and development policies for the Center
All recent traffic studies and recommendations were synthesized
and short-term steps intended to improve traffic circulation were
instituted
Parking received continuing attention Some on-street parking was
adjusted to protect residential neighborhoods and meet safety concerns
The parking stock subcommittee continues to examine options for increasing
downtown parking, giving particular attention to the recommendations in
the Town Manager' s Parking Garage Feasibility Study Noteworthy, was the
successful implementation of an attendant parking program in the Meriam
Street Parking Lot Suggested by John Oberteuffer, Conservation Commi-
ssioner, passed by the 1984 Town Meeting, well publicized by the Chamber
of Commerce, the program has been enthusiastically received by merchants,
shoppers and officials More than sixty additional cars are now accom-
modated in the same number of spaces at noon time.
