1. TAC's Focus. Neighborhood routes are the LEXPRESS' mainstay, but avenues to
extend services and thus, increase ridership, demands ongoing attention. Business
commuters were cited as an important base of stable ridership. Given financial
constraints, maximization of resources though cooperative efforts with bordering
towns and 128 Council was noted.
2. Recruitment of TAC Members. Ruth Hegwein, a senior LEXPRESS pass holder,
will be invited to the next meeting. Efforts to recruit a student representative are
ongoing. The recruitment of a parent of younger children was also suggested.
3. Lexington Tourist Shuttle. Tourism Committee requested input from the
Transportation Advisory Committee regarding bus service for a year round Tourist
Shuttle.A meeting will be held on October 11, 2001. Although funds arc not
available through the Transportation Services budget,TAC supports this effort.
Management of a shuttle through the terms of the existing M&L Transit Systems
contract is sanctioned.
4. M& L Transit Contract Extension. A fourth and fifth year extension,as stated in
the contract, was sanctioned. Review of maintenance records by the DPW Road
Machinery Supervisor was requested.
5. M&L Transit Contract Terms. In regard to extra buses, Page 10 of the contract
states `Payment shall be made based only on hours of actual service. One-half hour
has been charged throughout the contract for the extra Route 6,3pm run. In
September,an extra Route 6 bus,6:45am run,was requested at which time these
terms were questioned. The contractor requested one-hour payment for all extra runs
and compensation at this rate back to July 1999 when the contract took effect.
TAC sanctioned a new one-hour rate for the 6:45am extra bus. The ongoing rate of
one-half hour will remain in effect for the extra PM bus.
