1. LEXPRESS Office Coverage: Nancy Kolb remains on maternity leave. Sally agreed to meet
informally with Pauline Burke to see if the Committee members could be of any assistance
while the Coordinator remains absent.
2. Meeting with Tourism Advisory Committee. Don reported that,at Joe Marino's request,he
had attended the meeting of the Lexington Tourism Advisory Committee this morning.
There was considerable discussion of the possibility of LEXPRESS providing additional trips
aimed at serving tourists, principally to the Museum of Our Heritage and the Minuteman
National Historic Park's Lexington Visitors Center. A subcommittee was to be set up to
explore the feasibility of financing, managing and operating such additional service.
3. Next Steps on Ridership Outreach.
a. School Ridership. In Ben Turk's absence, discussion of this subject was deferred.
b. Senior Transportation. Elaine has set up a meeting with Heather Sweeney, the new
Director of Social Services and staff head of the Senior Center when Heather returns
from vacation.
c. Alternative Modes for Commuters. Ed said ways must be found to motivate
commuters to seek alternative modes for commuting. Perhaps we should follow Olga
Guttag's lead and start small: getting school children to start thinking that way
Change certainly is not going to occur overnight.
4. Ridership Analysis. The regular collection and analysis of ridership data appears to be left
undone. Ways that the TAC members might help tackle this backlog of work were discussed.
Sally would sound out Pauline, and Don was requested to arrange a meeting with Rick White
where TAC members could express their concern
5. Approve Minutes of August 9, 2000. They were approved.
6. Other Business. None.
7 Next Meeting. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday October 4, 2000.
