HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-03-29-TAC-min.pdf Lexington Transportation Advisory Committee Thursday, March 29, 2000 Meeting 7.30 PM, Selectmen's Meeting Room Meeting Minutes Attendees: Ed Ganshirt Elaine Dratch Sara Arnold Rebecca Rogers Ben Turk Sally Castleman Bill Mix Nancy Kolb 1 Patriot's Day We will be participating in the parade with the COA as in years past; however,we will not be decorating the bus or throwing candy Sara Arnold to check the condition of an existing banner that could be carried in front of the bus. Suggestion was made to add flags on the mirrors of the bus for the parade.N.Kolb to check the condition/usability of a previous year's decoration showing people in the bus windows. 2. Senior Outreach.During the month of April we will have a promotion of free fares for seniors. Seniors using a pass will be refunded$0.50.The contractor is splitting the cost of the refunded fares with the Town.There will also be an afternoon tea at the Senior Center to discuss LEXPRESS on April 13. 3. Discovery Day, Saturday May 20(the weekend before Memorial Day).A booth has been reserved for the TAC.This was suggested as a prime marketing tool for the override (tentatively scheduled for May 22).N. Kolb prepared a question and answer sheet of frequently asked LEXPRESS questions and other pieces summarizing LEXPRESS statistics.Volunteers are needed for operation of the booth(9 AM to 4 PM). 4. School Department correspondence.Previous offer to include LEXPRESS in mailing from the School Department must be followed up on.N.Kolb to fmd out specifically who the packets go to and if they will be sent out after the override. 5. Annual transit guide.Enough copies of the 2000 map exist to send out with school packages.N.Kolb will complete inventory Future project to identify new residents in Lexington and send map may be completed this summer by an intern. S.Arnold points out that we should not pass up this opportunity to be part of the School Department's mailing. 6. Town Meeting has approved the budget,however,there remains a question regarding the wording of the motion around LEXPRESS/Chair Car expenses.N.Kolb will be following up with the Town Manager and Town Council.The Transportation Services Office and LEXPRESS and Chair Car contracts will be on the override this spring. Tentative date for override is May 22. TAC members discussed how they may approach this issue.Don Graham and Elaine Dratch will contact TMMA members and Selectmen to see who is organizing override effort. 7 The Lexington Vision 2020 Transportation Committee is having a public outreach meeting at 7:30 on April 13.TAC members may wish to attend to comment on the vision and goals developed to date. Committee membership and charge.The Lexington Vision 2020 Transportation Committee's membership contains some potential new TAC members.However,this Committee is much more interested in overall transportation in Lexington,not just LEXPRESS and Chair Car.It may be appropriate for the TAC to propose widening its charge to the Selectmen,to advise on transportation issues as stated in the Vision 2020 Vision.Don Graham to review and propose update to current charge,if appropriate. 9 Meeting minutes were approved for November 9 and 30, 1999 January 20,and February 24,2000 meetings. 10.
