1. Patriot's Day Over twenty representatives from the Council on Aging participated in the
parade with LEXPRESS. Sara Arnold and Sally Castleman also joined the group.
S.Arnold brought a previously used banner that was carried out in front of the bus.The
Seniors took turns carrying the banner.Next year the COA hopes to have their own
banner.
2. Senior Outreach.During the month of April we are having a promotion of free fares for
seniors. Seniors using a pass will be refunded$0.50.The contractor is splitting the cost of
the refunded fares with the Town.Unfortunately,April has been quite rainy,which
negatively affects senior ridership.Next month N.Kolb will have a comparison of last
April's Senior ridership to this April's ridership.There was also a tea held at the Senior
Center to discuss LEXPRESS on April 13.Approximately 12 seniors came to the first
presentation about LEXPRESS.Then Senior Center staff brought in a group of
approximately 10 Chinese-American seniors and an interpreter and the presentation and
question and answer session was given in Chinese.
3. Discovery Day, Saturday May 20(the weekend before Memorial Day).A booth has been
reserved for the TAC.TAC members liked high-visibility location next to bandstand.
N.Kolb to fmalize the question and answer sheet of frequently asked LEXPRESS
questions and other pieces summarizing LEXPRESS statistics.Ben Turk will cover the
booth from 9 AM to 11 AM. S.Arnold and R.Rogers will call N.Kolb with their
availability on that day Other volunteers are needed for operation of the booth(11
AM to 4 PM).Please contact N.Kolb to volunteer.
4. School Department correspondence.LEXPRESS will be included in School Department
mailing on May 23.Mailing will include letter,pass application, and map. The letter was
reviewed and edited by TAC members.The School Department is mailing approximately
4,000 pieces to all households with school-aged children in Lexington.
5. Annual transit guide.N.Kolb completed inventory of maps—there are approximately
4,000 left just enough for the school department mailing.Therefore,there is a need to
republish maps.N.Kolb was contacted by RCN who is interested in advertising on
LEXPRESS.The map was offered to them for$8,000.Advertising in all four buses for 6
months was offered at$1,000.Other possible advertisers for the map are Citizen's Bank
and Fleet Bank.N.Kolb will be following up.

6. LEXPRESS office coverage.Janet Lewitzky LEXPRESS clerk,is retiring on May 4.
Temporary coverage has been identified. Please welcome Linda Judkins,who is filling in
through June 2,and Brittney Casey,Massport Intern,who will be working June through
August. Plans for a permanent employee will be finalized after the override vote.N. Kolb
maternity leave is expected to begin around August 1.Nancy plans on taking at least 3
months off after the babies are born.N.Kolb is speaking with the 128 Business Council
regarding coverage in the LEXPRESS office during her maternity leave.Any proposals
would need to be approved and funded by Bill Hadley,DPW Director,and/or Rick
White, Town Manager.
7 Meeting minutes were approved for the March 29,2000 meeting.
8. Next meeting: Wednesday,May 24,7:30 PM, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room
