HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-01-14-TAC-min.pdf LEXINGTON TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Wednesday, January 14, 1998 Meeting 7 30 PM, Room 111 MEETING MINUTES Attendees Sara Arnold Sally Castleman Elaine Dratch Betty Eddison Ed Ganshirt Don Graham Bill Mix Ben Turk 1 Approve Minutes a November 20, 1997 Meeting b December 10, 1997 Meeting Minutes of both meetings approved 2 Transportation Coordinator a Report on Selection Process The process whereby the five-person Selection Committee interviewed one candidate on November 25, 1997, six candidates in person and one candidate by conference call to California on December 19, 1997 was briefly described Three finalist were selected for Gayle Shattuck, the committee's facilitator, to check out further b Status of Negotiations The unanimous first choice of the Selection Committee was Nancy Kolb of Bedford Gayle checked out her references; Nancy was offered the position and she accepted She will start on February 2, 1998 An extended discussion followed concerning the priorities the committee would like to offer to Nancy and George Woodbury for their consideration These included expediting the procurement of the CNG buses, assuring a smooth continuation of operations through whatever contractual work would be required as the present contract expires, continuing the search for new sources of financing for the Transportation Services Office activities, aggressively marketing Lexpress, and helping to bring a Hartwell Avenue TMA into being It was agreed that further discussion of priorities with Nancy and George at the February TAC meeting would be desirable 3 Report of Chairman a Boston Properties December 18, 1997 Meeting b JRTC January 14, 1998 Meeting DGraham reported on the Boston Properties meeting concerning transportation issues in South Lexington It was one of a series of meetings attended by Lexington Public Works, Planning Board and South Lexington Civic Association representatives Nancy will certainly be a welcome guest at future meetings DGraham reported that he did not attend the January JRTC meeting, but attendance at future monthly meetings would be a responsibilty of the Transportation Coordinator 4 Letter to MBTA Re Route 76 Service a December 18, 1997 Contact with META DGraham reported that he called the MBTA to alert them to the letter that was on its way requesting a meeting and advised them that such a meeting would be most useful after the new Transportation Coordinator was on board b FYI November 13, 1997 MBTA Letter to Janet Lewitzky For the members information, a January 6, 1998 from Senator Fargo to the MBTA on the subject of the Route 76 service was distributed Ed Ganshirt also distributed a December 9, 1997 letter from him to Senator Fargo attaching a plan that Ed had sent to the MBTA proposing changes and extensions to MBTA bus service in the Route 128 area between Waltham and Woburn 5 Other Business DGraham reported that he had received a draft, at the beginning of the TAC meeting, of the Invitation to Bid for the CNG busses and that he was to get his comments back to DPW by Friday, January 16th A copy of a report from John Daley, a Lexpress bus driver, to Janet Lewitzky which had been distributed to the members, was discussed It involved a senior citizen passenger who collapsed on the bus and required response via 911 from the Lexington Police and Fire Department It was agreed that DGraham would discuss with Steve Baran of COA how best to follow up on this kind of special need 6 Next Meeting The next meeting was set for Wednesday, February 11, 1998 Since it was important for Nancy Kolb and George Woodbury to be there, it was agreed that DGraham would clear the date with them.
