Sara Arnold; presiding
Minutes: eR
TAC reviewed Minutes of the July 27 meeting. H kexP'a SS F `
Membership: 016
TAC discussed recruiting a high school studevor the committee. It was agreed that a
student representative should be a passholder and the student should be able to use
committee membership for community service credit. 711/9/
Meeting Dates:
TAC agreed that meeting dates would be on Tuesdays. The first and fourth Tuesdays of
the month were deemed best. The next TAC meeting was set for October 4 and another
meeting will be held on October 25. Two October meetings are necessary due to issues of
the new bus contract. November 22 was decided upon for that month's meeting. No
meeting date was set for December.
Business Expo:
Committee members volunteered to work in shifts at the Lexington Chamber of Commerce
Business Expo on Thursday September 29. As was done last year, we will work with
Share-A-Ride and give out information, maps, and free round-trip Lexpress tickets for new
riders.
Update on Trolley Service:
Barbara Lucas advised TAC that the Museum of Our National Heritage and the Sheraton
Tara Motel have written in support of the proposed Lexington-Concord trolley service.
She also stated that the Metropolitan Area Planning Council will reimburse $160,000
for the trolley service and that the money should be spent by September 30,1996. Barbara
reported that enthusiasm for the trolley service was expressed at the August 17 meeting
about the service by the Concord Museum and Orchard House. It was generally agreed
that it is not apropriate for TAC to take on this project, but it would be appropriate for the
Lexington-Concord Visitors Council as well as the Chamber of Commerce. Barbara will
keep Rick White and TAC advised on the issue.
Contract-Discussion of Potential Issues:
TAC discussed issues pertaining to the new bus contract including the advantages of
having bidders bid on the Lexpress and school bus contracts together. Combining the
contracts could result in a better deal. The issue of state and federal Transportation
Improvement Program funds providing money for new buses was discussed and Sara
Arnold pointed out that if we owned the buses, and the DPW maintained them, the cost for
the service would be small. Owning the buses would also make it easier to bid together
with the school bus contract.
