1 Coordinator - S Arnold informed committee members that P Burke took new
job in Public Works Department effective 9/14 and search for replacement already
began with job advertisement P Burke agreed to work 1/2 time in LEXPRESS
Office until new coordinator hired
2 Route 6 Student Overcrowding - Major problem on Route #6 first run in
morning and 3 00 p m run S Arnold gave background on discussion at last TAC
meeting about contractor asking to exchange current 21 passenger LEXPRESS vehicle
for a 25 passenger Burlington vehicle Joseph's did not want to keep IVECO
because of safety reasons Town Manager agreed to allow exchange
This will not solve problem with overcrowding as we are seeing 40-50 students
using bus in morning Have sold a large amount of passeS on this route The 25
pass vehicle will not solve this problem TAC discussed long term ramifications
of adding additional hours of service and whether we have funding to pay for it
Question of whether increased ridership and pass revenue will be enough to make
{ the FY93 projection, let alone whether there will be anything left over to pay
{ for additional service
Also, there is a policy issue that needs to be addressed S Arnold discussed
issue with J Smith, TAC's Selectmen liaison Should we look at long term
ramifications? Will we be changing bus routes? Should we return money to
passholders? Could School Department pay for part of funding extra bus?
Contractor has offered to provide an extra vehicle for 2 hours per day if he can
use our back-up bus Will do it for 3 hours per day if he has to use a bus from
Medford Options are a) extra bus for 2 hours, b) extra bus for 3 hours, c)
turn kids away and return pass money, and d) use bus on morning run only and have
students wait for next bus in afternoon
TAC decided to recommend that we pay for an extra bus for two hours at a cost of
$11 ,500 for rest of school year, less revenue generated, increased cost is
approx $10,000 Schools' said cost per pupil is $250 for school bus x 50
students= $12,500 Less parents contribution of $125 per student, School Dept
saves $6,000 for the year
TAC concerned about overall policy change and request for additional revenue
P Burke to make recommendation to Town Manager to be allowed to go ahead with
extra bus for 2 hours per day
3 Chamber of Commerce Info Expo - LEXPRESS invited to participate in Expo
and give out information from 3 to 9 pm on 9/24 in Cary Hall Many Town
