LEXINGTON TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
JANUARY 14, 1992
Present. L. Andrews, L. Burgin, P Burke, E Gibbs, F Rosenberg,
5. Arnold. Chair
FLEET VEHICLE/IVECO OPTIONS
Committtee members discussed billing A-Connoisseur Transportation
Corporation for use of the Lgxpress basic fleet vehicle in Framingham
for 33 days between October 1 and December 3, 1991 It was generally
agreed that the amount of $36 per day suggested by A-Connoisseur is a
low figure as it represents costs based on long-term arrangement and
it represents goats based only on the days the vehicle was actually
used If A-Connoisseur had to obtain another vehicle, its costs would
have been considerably higher The committee agreed to recommend to
the town manager that a charge higher than $36 per day be billed to
A-Connoisseur Transportation Corporation for the use of this vehicle.
The Committee members discussed use by Lexpress of the Iveco vehicle
from September through December 1991 There was an informal verbal
agreement that $2,700 would be paid for use of this vehicle during this
time period and 82,000 has been paid The remaining $700 was not paid
because it was not used as often as was promised The disadvantages of
the Iveco vehicle were outlined including the fact that it needs warm-
up time, has not been reliable in the past, and moat importantly, does
not have the 5 million dollars of insurance required for the Burlington
Mall It is moat necessary that our largest vehicle be able to go to
the Mall, but the cost of the additional insurance for the Iveco would
be prohibitive. Further, while a wheelchair lift could be installed on
the Iveco, the coat for this would also be prohibitive After much
discussion of the various options outlined in E. Gibbs' letters dated
December 6, 1991 to P Burke, the committee agreed that the best options
would be if we could obtain a large RTS kneeling bus for $11,000 and
this might satisfy our need to get started on acessibility Another
possibility might be trading a Lexpress fleet vehicle for a used, wheel-
chair lift bus which also would be a start on acessibility E. Gibb
cautioned that such vehicles are difficult to obtain as transportation
services nationwide are seeking them at this time. He also stated that
when a suitable vehicle was found, it would take three to five weeks to
refurbish and paint it 5. Arnold concluded that she would discuss this
issue with the town manager before the committee make a recommendation

BUDGET PRESENTATION TO SELECTMEN 1/15
For the presentation of our budget to the selectmen, the town manager
advised P Burke that we be prepared with figures illustrating our
successes such as our increased ridership and pass sales S Arnold also
stated her intention to highlight our relationship with an enthusiastic
contractor who has provided professional service The town manager has
recommended our budget, but S Arnold felt that we may be questioned
about Saturday service as this may be seen as an area where a cut might
be made. Our statistics show that the percentage of passholders is lower
on Saturdays than on weekdays indicating that we are serving different
residents. This is an argument for maintaining Saturday service as it
allows us to serve a larger percentage of households
The meeting was adjourned and the Committee went outside to look at the
wheelchair lift bus that E. Gibb obtained for his Framingham service.
